Just got my new DV7T Select Edition laptop and cannot get any video playback (sound only) when using the ATI 5650 graphics card. I CAN get video to work when in Intel graphics mode, but this does me no good when I want to play a movie on a bigscreen TV via the HDMI output with 5.1 sound. I have used various movie players such as VLC, wmp, media player classic...etc NOTHING. Why doesn't this work?!!!

Funny, on my dv6t, video doesn't work with intel hdmi.

Anyways, did you try detecting monitors in the display > screen resolution??

Or Use your Catalyst, Graphics > Desktop and Display??

See, I can't get playback even on my laptop's LCD when in ati 5650 mode... I tried messing with the settings in catalyst so maybe its the driver? maybe i should try uninstalling it or reverting to an older version??? just seems weird i cant find any other ppl with this problem as my laptop is like many others....

Seems like you need to work through the settings of CCC

    Hmm, can you reclarify again?

You saying you have no video on the laptop screen when switched from intel to ati?

You could use the Windows Step Record to record the step you are trying to do. And place in here, so we can see it.

Yes. With the ati settings on default it SHOULD work but i changed around the video settings with no avail. It does this with ALL video formats, even my webcam. just black with sound. youtube works however. Why does it work in Intel integrated graphics and not ati?!

Also the video preview in ccc is black and when i try changing video presets it always reverts back to custom. I cant adjust the brightness or anything. :(

Ok, I'm going to bite a bullet here.

    I'm assuming the dv7t is a 4th generation.

Try downloading the ATI drivers here

Also, assuming that on your laptop has individually installed ati and intel graphic components.
First, uninstall your ati and intel graphic drivers, which you could do in the add remove programs.

Install the drivers I post above, and follow its instructions.
