I'm getting weird network problems on my Dv9000. Without warning, the Internet will just die and stop working. The weird part about it though, is that pinging and DNS still work fine. I can go to the command prompt and ping www.yahoo.com and receive a response. However, I can't even get through to 192.168.1.1 to access my router when this happens. Clicking repair results in a message stating that no error was found.

It's almost as if my computer is losing the ability to send certain types of packets or something, since all websites stop working, as do my Yahoo Widgets I run on my desktop, and my email via Pop3.

Turning the wireless on and off via the switch has no effect, nor does disabling and enabling the wireless. However, rebooting fixes the problem everytime.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

I rolled back the driver, and then reinstalled based on the newest one on HP's website. The problem just happened again.

I notice this problem seems to happen most when I'm pushing a lot of network activity.

My exact model is dv9207us, which is a retail configuration of the dv9000. On the bottom is lists both model numbers.

Could this be related this defect:

"The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager."
That doesn't really describe my problem, but my laptop is within the affected computers range.

Nobody else has seen anything like this?

I have to wonder whether your notebook is affected by this:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c01087277&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us
I was going to ask whether you've flashed in the latest BIOS for your notebook as they've changed the AMD BIOS to always run the fan instead of letting it shut off when the CPU isn't 50C+. You have an Intel notebook though and I don't think they've updated the Intel BIOS with that fix even though it sure looks like they have the same problem. If your WiFi card is overheating when stressed, that would explain your symptoms. If you happen to have a notebook cooler handy use it and see if that helps.

I really don't know what this can be. I've eliminated just about every theory I can think of, because once this inability to network sets in, it also happens through the wired LAN. Seems like this is something pretty fundamental in either Vista or the hardware that might be screwing up. I don't remember this problem when I first got this computer either.

maybe, just maybe this can be interference with a cordless phone, especially if its 2.4 GHz. I have seen this is a common problem.

That wouldn't explain the fact that once my network goes dead, it also goes dead on the wired LAN. This has really got me stumped...

It could also be your router. Do you have any other machines on your LAN to test your Internet connection with? You might want to flash in the latest firmware for your router.

Unfortunately, all the other machines on the network act normally still when my computer flips out.

did you ever find a solution to this problem. My 9207 started having the same problem about 3 weeks ago. I think it is something a windows or hp upgrade did but a restore hasn't fixed problem. I really hate to reformat and reload windows but so far can't find another fix

I never found a solution to this problem either. I've tried all sorts of fixes but none of them have done anything. Among these are various command line commands to flush various networking related parts of Windows, reinstall drivers, rolling back, but the problem remains. When it first came out I also thought it was related to a Windows or HP upgrade. Let me know if you end up finding anything that works, especially if the problem remains after a reformat/reload if you end up doing that.

I'll let you know if I decide to reload. I'm leaving Jun 9th for a 3 mo RV'g trip to Alaska so I doubt if I'll reload before I get back

    Guys,

I have had the same thing happening for about a month as well. My HP is about 2 yrs old now and I too though it was hardware related. I can ping my internal router address and also DNS is working because I can also ping yahoo  with no issues. None of my other wireless devices, laptops, TIVO etc are having an issue, so it's not the router.

Has anyone had any luck with a solution?

    Thanks.

    Steve
