Hey guys im going to be buying a HP DV9704TX soon.. Would this make a good gaming and general entertainment PC? Im buying it from india for about 62,000 rupees thats around $1500 roughly.. Looking at the specs and comparing it to whats available here .. There really isnt anything that competes against it (no acer, toshiba, hcl) except maybe a dell xps.. now my main question is should i go for the HP or the dell xps?

ALso fill out the FAQ so we can help you better.

The thread Litus mentions has good advice(basically if your priority is gaming, you would want a 8600m GT or better that the Dv9700T doesnt offer).

Penryn are the latest processors that have been launched by Intel after the success of their Santa Rosa platform. Hope that answers your question.

Santa Rosa is a platform(Socket P), not a processor. Laptops that use a Peryn processor still have a Santa Rosa Chipset. The T7250 is a merom processor(65nm manufacturing process+4mb max cache) while new Penryn processors have a max of 6mb cache and 45nm manufacturing process.

What kinds of games do you want to/currently play? Search for some threads that comment on the performace of the GPU in games you are interested in/currently play and see if its acceptable.

The Dell vostro 1500/Vostro 1700 is another laptop that has a 8600m GT(its slower then the version in the XPS laptop and its more heavy/bulky) and should be cheaper(not sure if its availble in your country)
