What type of DVD are you burning? If it's copy protected you will need AnyDVD and CloneDVD to burn with.

yeah if this is the first time you use your dvd writer and it keeps giving you errors then chances are it is a faulty writer. btw are you doing anything while burning the disc? cuz while they have buffer underun protection nowadays it can happen I have noticed.

I dunno the roxio error msg cuz i dont use that but i do use nero so maybe the error msg there might help. do u have a desktop PC? maybe if you can use the drive from that PC or use an external dvd writer you can see if it works or not. the roxio error doesnt mean anything to me, if u can provide the nero error then maybe it can help.

could be that your vista install isnt good, though I do have one question. you had XP before this right? and the burning software was on XP and then you upgraded to Vista and the software remained the same? no upgrades? perhaps the problem is due to the incompatibility of Vista with the software? Try downloading nero trial software that works with Vista and see.

Well , in the case of Nero , it always completes the burning process then when you insert the burned DVD , the computer doesn't read it at all

and when i upgraded to vista , i bought Roxio Creator Basic , that is with all newly released HP Laptops with windows vista and i also used Nero 7 Ultra Edition

use the disc in another PC and see if it works. if it does then it is an issue of your PC alone.

    1) Try a different brand of disk. Your drive might not like the brand you are using now.
    2) Make sure you are on max performance mode and you aren't running anything too CPU intensive while burning to avoid buffer underruns.
    3) Try reinstalling drivers or burner firmware updates.
