    Hi guys,

Recently cracked the screen in my envy 1060ea, today I fitted a replacement that i bought from a third-party vendor.

The screen isn't so bad, although when i look close i can clearly see that the panel is made up of faint vertical lines which is quite distracting, and i don't think this was so apparent in the old screen, while this is perfectly fine for the meantime. I'm looking at this as an opportunity to upgrade to a higher resolution screen (and a matte variant for that matter).

My question is this, would it be possible for me to easily switch out the 15.6" WXGA (1366X768) with a higher res 15.6" WUXGA (1920x1080) or WXGA++ (1600x900), like the screen found in the US variant of this model?

I actually looked this up a while back and remember reading something about having the correct inverter, but most panels these days have them built in (?), meaning the upgrade would be nice and easy?

I'd much rather do this than upgrade to a newer ENVY, as although they generate less heat, consumes less power, and support more DX features, the GFX cards in the newer 14s aren't as powerful as the x8xx series. So i'll probably have to wait for next years revision for that kind of jump.

Hope you guys can shed some light..

If you have the Envy 15 then yes you can easily switch the panels. I did that to my now long-gone Envy 15-1100 CTO from its crappy LG 1366p to a wonderful LG 1080p Matte.

As long as you buy from a third-party vendor that know the sub-batch codes for panels produced just the Envy 15, you should be fine and all the cables should be all compatible.

With that said, there has never been a 900p panel available in the United States for the envy 15, so avoid that if you are worried about compatibility. Only by 1080p panels from vendor that knows how to order one or supply one that works with the Envy's cabling.
