I believe the battery management software is wonky in a way whereby the way it calculates the remaining battery power seems off a bit. If the laptop is left idle with say 3 hours of time shown, after i check it again say after 15 mins, it will show a totally different reading like 6 hours or something.
I read about switching off the fan option in the BIOS, which will enable the fans to function only under heavy load, I have yet to try it though. Also, read about HP CoolSense but don't think this model has that feature installed.
And not to add on here but the wifi isn't as good as my other two laptops shows 2-3 bars whilst the Envy shows just 1 bar.

I'm sure I've read or seen a video showing that the WiFi card is replaceable? I may be wrong
-
so laptop turned up today and there is a little back light bleed but I think I can live with that something I have noted though are the screen buzzes if its below 75% brightness does anyone else have this issue? also I would say the laptop gets very warm if I try and do more than one thing at once. I'm not sure if I should try and get it swapped for a different one and see if that has the same issues or get a refund? does anyone know what HP are like to deal with to get a replacement or a refund in the UK?

I turned off the fan in BIOS and it is really quiet.. until you run some applications that would enable the fan to keep the laptop cool.
-
Did anyone have difficulty returning the Laptop to HP for a refund?
-
I tried to find information on HP's return policy but failed.
I also notice a "click" sound as I close the laptop - has anyone experience this same situation? Is this normal? -
why should you have problems returning it? if you are within the 14 days nobody could refuse it.
-
Not really... that was under full load and for a notebook this thin, 60C is more than acceptable under 100% load. 90C would be "extremely hot".
-
It is just 7 days if you're in Malaysia.

I am exchanging mine for another unit as I'm facing these issues and want to see if a new unit would be better off:
1) Extreme heat when installing, downloading, updating, etc - any process other than being idle.
2) Battery is dismal maybe because of the fans being constantly running to cool the unit down.
3) Wifi sucks! As I had 2-3 bars for my old laptops and mobiles but 0-1 bar for this Envy unit.
4) There is this "click" sound as I close the lid - not sure if this is how it should be...
5) The graphics (i.e. brightness, etc) goes kookoo at times - not allowing me to change the contrast level and all... -
Sounds like a lemon. Mine did not have those issues. Which Wifi card does it have?
Did you also disable "Fan always on" in the BIOS? I have no idea why it's on by default, because it's not needed on a good working unit.
I only had bad backlight bleed and a crackling speaker. -
Using the Broadcom wifi module. I didn't disable the fan settings in the BIOS as I don't think it'll do much good honestly as the fan will still switch on for most of the time coz of the extreme heat generated by this unit...
-
My unit had Intel 7260AC wifi which worked very well. You should return it, because it should not run hot constantly. Mine did not at least.
-
Where did you purchase your unit from? Did you have option to choose between both wifi cards (i.e. Broadcom or Intel)?
-
No choice here in The Netherlands. We have three configurations and they all have 7265AC (not 7260AC, that was a mistake).
-
I'm going to return the envy 13 skylake...the heat is just total nonsense! charging it while surfing the web generate such heat that i can't touch the affected area for more than 3-5 seconds...
display keeps giving errors...and the driver seems to be made for win 8...
many more issues...good luck to u guys... -
Is this laptop so bad?
I ordered one one month and a half ago. I had a really bad light bleeding on every corner when light on max and on a dark room, so I returned. They said they don't have more units until the end of this month, so I don't know if I should wait or just cancel it and order another one (can't find any other similar with same price (850€ for i5, 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM)).
What do you recommend? -
Just get a refund and find another laptop.
-
went through 3 of these and decided to look at something else. 1 from the microsoft store and 2 from costco. they all had the same issues: screen bleed, doesn't sit flat, lid hangs over the chassis on one side when closed. mostly minor things, but they really bugged me.
-
Really? What other laptop recommend, in the same price? I bought this with Black Friday discount (15%), so it was only 850€ for 8GB and 256GB SSD. I think there's nothing similar on that price.

HI everyone,
I'm really thinking about buying this notebook. After a deep analysis (I'm going to spend around 1000€) I found that these three laptops are among the best for this price:
- Asus Zenbook UX303ub (1099€)
- HP Envy 13 d001nl (1199€)
- Dell Xps 13 9350 (1299€)
I know that Xps is the best, but maybe I can save some money with the other two.
Problems?
It seems like all Zenbook have hinges issues: they brake soon or later
Keyboard is a little bit bouncy and the trackpad is noisy.
While Envy, as I read in this thread, seems to have battery and heat issues; and the fan is always on; while I don't really care for backlight bleed.
What do you think?

As I read, the fan always on in the Envy can be changed in the BIOS. I'm not sure if heat issues will be worse than in the Zenbook (as I think it has no fans at all).

Pardon, which one has no fans at all: the Envy or the Zenbook?
-
I'm sorry, but I was comparing a laptop from the UX303 series (UX303ub)...
-
the only zenbook that has no fan is the ux305 series. all the ux303 notebooks have fans!lorenzo004 likes this.

Yeah, I had a hard time finding an alternative that was in the same price range. I ended up purchasing a sager np3240 from sagernotebook.com: . Even though it's made out of plastic I've found no issues with the build quality, major or minor. Also, the light-bleed isn't as obvious. I would have liked to have kept the envy since it's lighter and has a metal body, but I couldn't look past the flaws: light bleed, doesn't lay flat on a surface, screen doesn't line up with the body when closed, general quality control.

I think the dell 13 FHD still has the auto contrast issue that you can't turn off, but they have a bios update for the QHD

Thanks, I know about the update and I know that it's only for the QHD, there will never be an update for the FHD.

Finally I kept the Envy 13. I bought a Kensington lock which is working in my other laptop but doesn't seem to work there.
Anyone else using a Kensington with this laptop?
