Holy Poo! You sir, are a G. That was a really good review, you covered basically all the questions I had for Dolphin. You've also made the first video on YT for E14+Dolphin, right?
Now...do PCSX2!
And, could you share some thoughts on SC2 on high, or even ultra? If you have it, that is. Also, if you do, you think Blizz will release some kinda fix for ATI cards? Or is it a CPU thing which is affecting everyone?
Again, much thanks to you for the thoroughly narrated review video--I really appreciate it! You're such a sexpot
-
Wha? I dont get it? I thought he OC'd it?
-
was that in SC2? That also happened to me after the new patch! I had to force 3d clocks in afterburner.
-
I haven't been following for a while. Anyone overvolted the GPU yet? Or significantly overclocked it?
-
I think this has to do with it it Magus,
ATI Releases StarCraft II Anti-Aliasing Hotfix
bon apettit. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
No this wasn't caused by any patches or anything like that.
it was a bug caused by switchable graphics. -
Ok I have been gone for a week and really can't read the hundreds of pages on here lol. I got my second Envy from the BCB about to open..it better not have any problems. How are the people doing with OCing? I am about to pick up SC2 tonight too cant wait to play! =)
EDIT: I saw that HP made the Radiance screen a $200 upgrade you srs?!?!? -

HP wants more money
-
In less than a month, HP has pulled some crazy greedy sh**. Magus, should I still buy one?
-

*shrugs*
do you want the 1600x900 and the ability to last 'bout 4ish hours?
maybe.
do you not give a crap about the 1600x900? Get a damn 3820tg or wait on a G53 if you don't care about switchable graphics and/or battery life too.
Me. the 1600x900 trumps and the 4 hours trumps the weaker than 3820tg/4820tg graphics card.
edit: or you could try for one of those dv6ts or dv6t:se's while it has a super coupon. -
Has anyone tried Borderlands on this yet? I was thinking about getting it, but I wanna know what settings I can run it at first.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I have the game but haven't gotten around to installing it yet.
I'll let you know whenever I do get to that -
Alright cool, thanks. No rush. Just wondering, is all. Is the game worth getting?
-
So i just bought Left 4 Dead for my envy that is on it's way, but I want to play it right away. Can i play it on my current computer and then install it onto my envy later?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
it's on steam right? yeah steam doesn't give a crap so long as you don't log in to the same steam account in online mode on two different computers
-
Yeah it's on steam. Thanks for the quick answer! Zombies here I come!

awww AGAIN!?
It seems every time I go to the intel if I come back to the radeon it won't go above 300/300.
DAMN YOU CATALYST 10.7 OPEN GL 2.0 BETA DRIVERS!!!
....least I hope it's just the drivers. Rebooting fixes the problem. forcing higher clocks with msi afterburner well...circumvents the problem but it won't go up to 450/800 normally til you reboot. -
Unfortunately I don't have SC2 yet, but I will probably get it soon (I know someone who did a few voices for the game, so maybe a free copy? I can hope...).
I might get PCSX2 in a while to finally beat Shadow of the Colossus and ICO. If/when I do, I'll post impressions -
Started the SC2 campaign. Everything on High, default GPU clocks. So far it's just fine. Granted not a huge scale battle yet or anything. FRAPS reporting 25-35 fps for the most part, which is more than playable. Might need to toy wiht settings later with bigger battles though, we'll see.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
watch out for the lava stage. murders your fps ('course it murders everyone's fps)
-
have to say im pretty disappointed with how the envy 14 handles sc2. started playing some 3v3s and during the big battles i would lag and slow the game down on medium settings! i even got that message during the game saying your video card sucks so you are slowing down the game. had to turn it down to low to finish the game. and its such a huge drop of from medium to low. also, i didnt realize this before because i had my fan next to me on full blast but when i turned it off i could hear the fans roaring on this laptop.
like someone just said, you can run this game on high for the campaign but when the big battles roll around this laptop struggles.
i should point out i havent done a clean install on this laptop but i did close just about every process but sc2 and had no other applications running. its warm in my room but not hot. -
Never fear, I'm sure there will be plenty of optimization in the future. However, as much as it sucks, try running at 1280x720. This GPU is meant more for that resolution than 1600x900 for new games.
-
If you're doing it on brutal, the last mission will kill your computer if you keep it on high lol.
BTW, anyone on the US servers that would like to get some games going? :] -
Wow, just checked that too, can't believe they pulled that... I'm really glad I ordered it last week, guess I got pretty lucky
-
Just read the previous 10 pages of this thread. One question hasnt been answered: Can the GPU be overclocked further now or are we still stuck?
-
Serious? I get 20-25 in 1v1 ZvT (me zerg) Steppes of War, or in the logged-in-campaign-mode. And in that game I was able to get all the way up to macro-sized army for some reason...
This post made me laugh too, cuz I get that all the time, and just ignore it LOLzzzzzz.
Subscribed (to receive the answer). -
I play it on low and get good frames. From 80+ from early game to 40-60 to late game which is good. YEs its ugly but gameplay first at least on a laptop...
-
Anyone tried 10.7a beta?
I just did and install worked fine, switchable graphics working.
Going to work now, ill run 3dmark06 when i get home. -
ooh nice, you got the canadian model? Was there any problems with it out of the box?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
wonder if 10.7a beta will fix that issue where the 5650 gets stuck in low power/clock mode (I'm on 10.7 beta)
I have to reboot to get it back up to 450/800 (without OCing) -
Hey just a quick question....how is the Envy 14 with 5650 in comparison to the Envy 15 in gaming graphics? I am fine with the Envy 15 size, I just have heard the Envy 14 is a better computer overall. I'm not sure how a 5650 compares to a 5830.
My primary game would be starcraft 2 + some game mods and stuff. -
You will definitely get better frame rates from the 5830.
-
The 5830 is faster than the 5650, and considering that the Envy 14 5650 is of inferior quality (or just underclocked), the 5830 should be much faster.
I can't say how well the Envy 15 runs SC2, but the Envy 14 seems to get poor performance at standard clocks. -
Anyone?
/10char -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
msi afterburner lets you go above 585 if you OC it to something (say 550) close the program, and then re-open it. it'll pretend 550 is the default, not 450 and you can then move it higher.

*figures out at least what is probably happening to his radeon when he switches to igp and back*
powerplay is getting confused. though it may be getting confused just from going on battery. Switching powerplay to max savings, applying, then back to max performance and applying fixes the issue. -
I have a very small piece of dust(looks like 3ish dead pixels) neat the top left of my screen. Other than that it is fine. I use a monitor anyway.
*one thing that annoys me is when the touch pad is off the orange light is so bright it hurts my eyes in the dark.
PS: The only really bad thing about getting a Canadian model is that you pay $700 more for a worse processor. But i didn't pay for it so whatever.
PPS: My 430m is clocked at 2.53 always and never changes, i think its a problem with turbo boost drivers, both cores are this way. -
I still cannot get past 510/810 on 10.7 and 10.7a -
i'd actually prefer them both at 2.53 lolz, i rarely have it unplugged anyway
yer i'm in the UK but someone i know is going for business, i'm wondering if i should get them to open and see if there's anything wrong or not bother at all...
hopefully futureshop honor their price match guarantee and i should be able to get it for $1500ish including taxes, just hope i don't get a lemon -
I'm kinda disappointed here with the Envy 14. The only game I have is Civilization 4 and it lags more on this than my old gateway 6860. Any suggestions?
=Jason- -
I would get them to give it a look. I didnt even notice the screen dust for like 3 hours after using my laptop.
-
Yea, I didnt notice the dust on mine(right in the center) until 3-4 days later....
-
hey E14 owners. I was really close to getting the E14 but opted for a MBP13 instead. So how are you gaming owners liking it? It seems like the resolution 1600x900 is the main issue for lower FPS problems? Read through several pages regarding some SC2 problems too. Anyway, just wanted to check up since I like to be in the know of various laptops. Really liking the performance of the 320m in the MBP though =)
-
Has anyone had problem switching to the graphics card when on batt? I have tried using the catalyst control center and when I select it to switch it never does, just flickers onces and stay on the integrateded one.
-
Depends on the game. HD 5650 has a 128bit bus width, which really means lower resolutions for graphics intensive games. If they made it 192bit or 256bit it'd be less of an issue, not to mention a faster core GPU speed.
-
^ so how are you enjoying the E14 as a gaming machine and all else.
-
I can't believe I've been worrying over my laptop's horrendous performance... Only to notice the exact same problem as yours. I was lagging badly in Borderlands and Dawn of War 2. Let's say 300/300 ain't good and the numbers literally doubled after a reboot
I think I'll give overclocking a shot sometime soon, but for now I'm happy that it works at all. -
I'm pretty impressed with it, as far as SC2 goes I haven't had any problems with it. The only time the FPS goes way down is with giant armies (much bigger than in a normal game, something more like Nexus Wars with a hundred sentries each with their own rippling shield animation). It is noticeably slower than the higher clocked 5650 in the dv6tse though.

MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well 300/300 is "dude we're on battery, let's save some power"
so powerplay is screwing up
