Would it be playable to get sc2 for the e14? Or should I just get it for my desktop?

I am able to play SC2 on med/high settings with fps between 30-40

So I was just playing the campaign when my Envy crashed hard with green/white vertical lines displaying on my monitor. What happened, and should I be worried?

Im having the same problem, just playing for 5 or 10 minutes and the screen goes stripped or black and the computer reboots after 10 seconds. What can we do? I have Catalyst 10.7...

I have executed the furmark stability test for 30 minutes with no problem...

Yep, I've searched a lot this error, I have tried all the solutions but none of them works for me. I have a 720qm Envy 14, I love it, I bought it yesterday and I have 5 more days to return it... I only want to know how to fix this problem, or if this error will be fixed soon, If not I will return this gorgeus laptop...

The SC2 crash only occured in menus, so I found this fix that worked for me.

Under Documents\StarcraftII\variables.txt add the following two lines:

    frameratecapglue=30
    frameratecap=60

I have the I7-720 and my machine often crashes because it gets too hot during gaming. Why don't you monitor your temps and see if they are going above 90C+?

With a notebook cooler and an AC things hover around 80C though.

Yes, Blizzard didn't cap the FPS on the menu so the graphics card renders the heck out of it. Melted a few of my friend's video cards. Everyone that has SC2 should do that if they don't want to ruin their PC.

Why do some things say that my video card is a "ATI display adapter (0x68C1)". For example, on CanYouRunIt, mine used to say ATI Mobility Radeon 5650, until I did a minimized recovery... Does anyone else have this problem? Try going to the CanYouRunIt website and see what video card it thinks you have.
( Posted this on the other thread, but I think you guys would be able to help me out more. )

it'll say 5650 if you use HP drivers.

it'll say 5600/5700 if you use ATI drivers for 10.4+ 'cause well..that's what he catalyst drivers call it by

Weird, I capped the fps in COD4 at 50, and I got to play 2 and a half matches without a crash. I'm gonna see if that might have fixed my crashing.

Default cap was at 85. Hmm..

So can anyone confirm if 10.7a fixes SC2 problems? Is it playable on High yet?

Also, if 10.7a doesnt fix SC2 problems, did MSI Afterburner OC do anything?

you're not going to get high at > 30 fps on the envy 14.

you need a real graphics card for that (something with more than a 128-bit bus)

I have tried the regedit solution, I also tried the frame lock, and nothing works. I have install the lastest drivers 10.7a, It doesnt matter, SC2 still crashes. I dont think that the problem is overheating, I have had running furmark for 30 minutes with the graphic card at 80ºC max... Anyway if It is an overheating problem I will return the laptop, I want to play to games, I bought it to use it, I didnt buy a 1500€ laptop for only office! :(

'cause SC2 won't overheat my computer, even while OCed to 550/800. And I live in Florida

My computer froze yesterday twice watching videos on youtube on dedicated graphics. Is it because the OC is unstable?

    what version of catalyst drivers?

a new codec for flash stuff crashes hardware accelerated flash videos if you're on flash 10.1 and on Catalyst 10.6 and possibly lower (not sure 'bout HP's 10.3)

Mine doesn't crash when doing any of that stuff, even while using the dedicated card. Mine used to crash while playing Modern Warfare, but I put an FPS cap, and it hasn't crashed since. I don't mind setting the cap though, because it's at 75 fps, so it doesn't matter if I'm running at maximum possible FPS since anything over ~60 is indiscernible.

    never crashed on those videos.

if you're on catalyst 10.6 update to 10.7 or 10.7a

if you're on 10.3 well...go to integrated, go to some youtube video, right click on it, click properties (not global), find your way to hardware acceleration and turn it off.

it should stop crashing while on dedicated so long as it never goes back to hardware accelerated video.

edit: you could also update to 10.7/10.7a if you want but eh.

I'm getting 60 fps on wow at ultra settings, do you guys think I can expect as good performance with SWTOR when it comes out? And I get a little lag with starcraft 2 in online matches at medium settings at native res, is that just the internet latency or should I put it down to low?

well I mean I can get decent fps (50s) if I modify the variables.txt to turn off hdr lighting and soft shadows and lower the shadowmapsize to 512 (instead of 2048).

shadows look kinda...jaggy to say the least depending on where you're seeing 'em from but it gets good fps.

now if only it would stop stuttering (I know why it's doing it, I just need to play enough games to see everything and have all the shader stuff reloaded and it'll be fine. 'course doesn't make it any less annoying).

the stuttering is a starcraft 2 issue if you try to customize the shaders stuff (turn off hdr and soft shadows but still have shaders at high) where it has to load the stuff into memory (or whatever the reason the beta gave).

that message is missing now 'cause you can't pick low shadows at medium/high/ultra shaders without editing variables.txt but the problem still happens.

How come my Envy 14 crashes after like 10-15 mins of counterstrike source?
It could possibly be other games as well. But it just started happening recently. A few days ago the game would play fine. But since last night. It crashes every 10 to 15 mins.

I had the same problem before I returned the laptop. The only solution is to put a fan rear the laptop close to the holes of the GPU, but the problem is that the screen cover this holes when is open... is not a problem of drivers, is overheating, and that cant be solved with software upgrade (bios, drivers). Sorry for that

is there any method that doesnt require registry edit?
i know for one Asus A42 can do the adjustments through the graphics options.

Why must 5650 be so complicated

Anyway thanks for the link, will try it out if there are no other alternatives xD

Change your resolution to below 1600x900.

then go to displays and stuff (that page that shows a laptop screen)

right click on the screen, go click configure (or it may be properties, don't remember)

you'll find scaling. turn off fixed aspect ratio and/or scaling in general.

you can't edit the scaling option if you're on a 16:9 resoloution 'cause ATI is kinda stupid.
