Is it normal for my temperatures on tz00 to be 100'C because I feel like my computer is overheating more now for some off reason. My computer idling now is at 84'c. But when I play diablo 3 it's about 100 or more.

MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
no I don't think it should be idling at 84 celsius. Mine still idles around 47 or so for tz00
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
oh hey yeah diablo 3 beta worked well at max (AA off) at 1280x720. I did occasionally run into the "oh god my processor is at 89-92 celsius god damn blizzard you're the only people to pull this off" problem

Hey all, new member here.
I've had my Envy for about 2 years, and I've only recently noticed something. I think my GPU is dying. For most games, even when I max it out for a test, the quality is barely above minimum, and it's most apparent in textures. Here's an example from STALKER of what I'm talking about.
Shadow of Chernobyl's not the best looking game out there, but I KNOW the ground isn't supposed to look like that. Especially not with a texture pack.
Any help for a forum newbie? -
Are you running on the Intel GPU or just have your settings set really low in the games?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
Did you set the mipmap setting to maximum performance in the catalyst control center? That may be causing your low res textures.
alternatively you messed up the texture pack or double alternatively the drivers are corrupted somehow (but that'd make giant texture triangles spanning off into infinity).
..or maybe your gpu is dying. I'd first check the mipmap stuff and if that's not the case I'd try reinstalling your drivers. -
Anyone having issues running Diablo 3 on the 12.4 drivers? The opening movie becomes all pixelated, and then it just stutters, stops and runs really slow.. is this game just too much for my old Envy 1xxx?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
no but supposedly the 12.4 drivers has some issues with diablo 3 depending on the card.
clean everything out and then install 12.3 and wait for 12.5/12.4a -
Magus, whats the easiest way to clean everything out, then installing stock 10.8 switchable drivers?
Would just running 12.3 be a problem if it works fine? Whats the deal with 12.3 compared to 12.4? Any reason I would need 12.4+ -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
*shrugs* generally newer graphics cards have improvements for newer games. 12.4 just kinda broke diablo 3 though for older radeon cards.
Anyway to clean things you you need to uninstall the drivers. reboot. uninstall them again. reboot again, hope you boot into vga mode (640x480) and if not uninstall a third time and then boot to safe mode and use driver sweeper on the ati/amd drivers.
THEN it should finally boot into vga mode on non safe-mode windows and you can install the switchable graphics drivers. then (if you're my computer) 11.2. then 12.3
edit: you may need to stop/cancel/do something to stop the computer from auto windows updating to the old HP drivers. Mine did that forever once (which is why I said you had to uninstall things 3+ times). It was a pain. Hopefully you won't have that issue. -
I am getting sub 30 FPS on Alan Wake and Skyrim at 720p. 1st Gen Envy 14 here anyone else in the same boat? I'm on newest drivers and updates for both games and the GPU
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
skyrim has never really played nice for me. not sure why. alan wake may require a bit more horsepower sadly.
-
Actually Im still using 10.2 if im not wrong, they give me the best performance of all games, I tried at 12.3 and no other drivers gave me a better performance than 10.2
alan wake runs at 30 fps (sometimes below 30) at 1024x768
to the guy saying his computer is overheating I had to order a new thermal paste, and placed 2 coper pieces so now transmits the heat better. My max temps are 88 when playing demanding games like bc2 or bf3.
normal gaming heats up to 80c max.
envy 14 has obviously some cooling problems, I bought a laptop coller, removed the under case and placed the laptop on top with the 3 fans below, and the computer was idling at 25c and reaching max temperatures of 75 when playing battlefield, I was even able to play bf3 at native resolution with 40 fps! so obviously heating steals power from the envy 14. -
11.10 is the drivers im using, those are the only ones that never failed to me!

Funny problem for you guys. I just replaced the dead hdd in my envy with a 500GB Momentus XT. Day 2 after a fresh install, I start installing all my old programs and games to get back up and running. But now one of the problems I thought was caused by the broken hard drive.
Whenever I play NBA 2k12, or FIFA 12 , anywhere from 5-25 min into playing, the computer just tries to enter sleep. No warnings, closing of programs or crashes. The comp just tries to sleep and sometimes hangs until I hard reboot.
I havn't been able reproduced the error with any other games than sports sims (FIFA and NBA). Skyrim, (murdered out w/ mods) and Amneisia work perfectly fine at pretty high settings.
I am having bad lag issues in GTA even though the in-game benchmark settings say I'm using 401/1024mb
I am currently testing diffrent power plans. and will monitor the temps.
Could it be the GPU dying? I am experiencing no artifacts or BSODs. Currently running 12.3 drivers . But the problem manifested ever since ver. 11.8 -
Anyone tried MP3 on their envy? not sure if I should buy it.
-
i know this is a very late response to you, but i've had the same problem when i was running....actually can't remember which game i was running.
i found that it was an overheating issue. i cleaned all the dust out of all the fans and it didnt' happen again -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Thread may be dead by now, but I'm putting this out there.
My old Dell with 8400M GS ran Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl fairly well. When I got my Envy 14 and tried to run Call of Pripyat I had issues where the game took several minutes to load the first map and then the gameplay typically ran at about 10 FPS for under a minute at which point it would freeze entirely - I don't remember if I had to hard-reboot or not. I chalked it up to the Envy 14 being incapable of running CoP. However, I just decided to pull SoC back out and give it another run, and I'm not getting past a frozen loading screen. I can ctrl+alt+del out and close the process (not responding), but I can't alt+tab out.
Incidentally, both machines were running Win 7 64-bit Home Premium.
So now I'm pretty sure my CoP issues were more than just GPU power problems, but probably something happening between the engine and my software or hardware. Anyone run into any problems with any of the Stalker games on their Envy 14's? I've updated my GPU drivers (successfully) a number of times since the CoP issues, so if it's a driver thing it's been persistent over a couple years worth of drivers. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
Way way way back when I remember CoP running alright on my Envy 14 in DX10 mode. I don't remember what drivers I was on or anything but it was probably pre 2011 drivers.
I also remember someone else having problems with it back then as well. Maybe it's the old "powerplay breaks everything" bug. Turn powerplay off and on while your computer is plugged in to fix that.
The bug is triggered whenever you unplug the envy 14 and/or whenever you change the gpu. -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
I'll give that a try when I get home tonight, but I haven't experienced any PowerPlay related issues in quite a while, so I'm not particularly hopeful about that as a solution. The old post you're talking about might be my own, I think you or someone else suggested at the time that we might simply not have enough power for CoP. I might check out the Steam forums as well to see if anyone's had the same problem or even try a total OS rollback - I haven't done that since the day I got the computer, so it's kind've due anyway.

MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
Didn't your envy 14 have that issue where it was bluescreening because it had an underbinned gpu that would crash when under load at stock cllocks? Did you replace the motherboard?
Maybe I'm thinking of someone else this was again two years ago. -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
That was me. It never technically bluescreened - it would crash in-game and stick on the last frame it displayed until I hard rebooted. I replaced the board a little over a year ago and haven't had crashes since. The CoP stuff was before the replacement, SoC is since.
I've actually gotten SoC running a couple times - once I get past the horrendous five minute load time during which task manager reports SoC as not responding, I can play like normal. The first several times I gave up after only a minute or two of zero load-screen motion. Loading saved games tends to take 30 seconds or more, and new maps are a couple minutes, but gameplay is smooth. If it makes a difference, my SSD has been filled within about 25 GB of its capacity before, but currently sits at around 55 GB free. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
SoC's engine does not know the meaning of streaming levels/whatever so it just loads all the textures and stuff into the game at the start. This can take forever sometimes if the game hates your computer.
I'm not really sure what can be done to fix this.
You ARE using the SoC Complete 2009 mod, right? Probably can't turn all the extra nice graphics features on but it may help out. -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
I should have checked the Steam forum initially... turns out SoC and CoP both have issues with slow load times when Steam is running under Vista compatibility mode, which is something that sometimes happens for some reason. A quick registry fix to remove the Vista binding and my load times dropped down to normal.
I hadn't installed the Complete 2009 mod, but I decided to do so after I got the game running properly. So far, it's nice, but not quite as impressive as I'd been led to believe. I'm sure I'll have a more comprehensive opinion after I get further in. -
I have an Envy 14-1050ca, have been playing Total War: Shogun 2 happily for close to a year. All of a sudden, I started getting the black screen a few minutes into a campaign mode battle. Music keeps playing, but I lose all visual and can't get out of the game and have to manually shut down. Have logged hundreds of hours, issue just starting happening out of nowhere.
Video driver for the ATI Radeon 5650 on the HP support site seems to date back to 2010. This is my second Envy 14 - first one had to be replaced after 6-8 months because the video card died. I remember when troubleshooting with HP they did not advise to download the latest CCC from the AMD site.
Any suggestions on where to start? -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
That sounds like a failing GPU. My Envy 14 did the same thing about half a year after I bought it, the 5650 just wasn't any good - it had deteriorated somehow over a few months, which is not normal. A motherboard replacement sorted things out for me. I know that's not good news.
Trying newer drivers certainly doesn't hurt - there's a thread around here that will tell you how to upgrade to the latest AMD drivers, including download links for the standalone driver repositories you'll need to download (the main download from AMD will tell you that your computer isn't supported). I've definitely seen performance improvements with updated drivers. The caveat is that if you GPU is failing or has failed, it's not a problem you can fix with software. At the very least, it's worth trying - you're not going to make anything worse by updating the drivers. -
I just wanted to add this out there in case other people have been having issues with their HP Envy 14 with a 5650M. I spent about a week trying to figure out why my laptop could not play diablo 3. It was getting 3-5 fps. I thought after trying every driver pack out there that the graphics card was hosed. I am a MSDN member so I figured and threw Windows 8 on the machine. I didn't touch the driver settings or anything and the moment I booted into Win 8 I loaded diablo from battle.net and tested it. No clue why but it ran perfectly. I could crank it to high settings and still push 35-40 fps no problem. If your like me and have Win 8 lying around try it on your HP Envy. I can't say why for sure, but it fixed mine.

Hi guys!
I'm new on this site, and i searching for some overlocking threads about Envy 14 2095-en. So this is my new laptop, and example it can't handle Far Cry 3, it's lagging on 800x600 low texture details, I think it's unbelievable, cause i saw a lot's of youtube video with this set up without lagg at least 1366*XXXX resolution min. 30FPS
The specification of my Envy is - With CPUZ:
ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting (I upgrated my RAM 2x4GB of Kingston, the original set is 6GB)
My BIOS version is Insyde F0.6, i found the switchable graphic card options, and i turned it to fix, it's a bit better.
Can anyone write me a link, or an offer for it? I tried to find some topics about this, but i found nowhere.
Thanks a lot. -
well I had a envy 14 1xxx first gen and it ran far cry 3 at dx11 low preset and 1024x600 at 35fps steady, maybe you should update graphics driver, and could you please upload your dxdiag file?
open windows, on the search var type DXDIAG and press enter, click on save all information, upload that text file here.
