I tried a little gaming on my ENVY 14, some Need for Speed.

Settings were on High and Aero was enabled... Probably a mistake.
The game looked great, but temperatures spiked to over 75 degrees Celsius in both the CPU and GPU.

Would it be safe to put an ice pack or something on it so I can play games without worrying that my expensive computer will explode?

75 isnt high and wont cause damage. Just keep the surrounding area free from objects, keep the bottom of the laptop elevated, and maybe turn down the graphics also.

Even temperature increases to 80C is not overheat. Anything goes up to 82C or above is an alarming rate. If you are still concern, absolutely no ice pack, just purchase a laptop cooler from Newegg.
