I assure you I did a thorough search for this topic before I started this thread and found no definitive answer. I was wondering if anyone has resolved any or all of the ENVY 15 webcam issues. My primary question is:

-is it now possible to start the webcam consistently?

I don't even mind the purplish tint when it does work, I was just wondering if there was a set of drivers that allows you to start the webcam consistently in things like google chat, skype, etc. On my ENVY 15, the webcam light doesn't come on consistently when I try to initialize the camera.

Please let me know if there's an answer to this issue. If not, how do I check what model webcam I have? I might try some other drivers and post results.

What do you mean by starting the webcam consistently ? What are you trying to achieve ?
Is it flickering, turning on/off or not working ?
If you want better color correction, there is setting which "helps"

When I try to use video gchat, I can't see an image for my end of the conversation. Same thing happens in Skype and the Media Center software. The software initializes but I don't see a light for my webcam. It only intermittently works.

hmm this did happen to me, but with an exact error, do you see the device in Device Manager, if not then that's what happened to me (unknown usb device), I found the solution somewhere I'll try find it if you're on the same boat

I will give it a try tomorrow (it's my mom's computer), thanks for the tip. However, the error doesn't present a warning in the program. The camera just doesn't turn on; the screen is blank, the activity light is dark, and no warning window pops up either.

By error I meant the pop up in device manager, not pop up when using. And yeah I think it's the exact same thing happened to me. I followed some tips in that link, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.. It ended up didn't working. I turned off my computer and the next day it works ... No clue

the same thing happened to my envy 14, camera did not work out of the box. i ended up sending it back to HP who said a wire was not connected properly. after being treated very badly by their case managers i eventually got the computer back. the camera worked for about 2-4 skype calls, and then it stopped working again. bad computer, bad service, bad repair job...

the mic on mine comes and goes too.

so i bought an external HD camera/mic. sorry to say it but HP quality in my experience is rubbish so an external device was the only way i could be sure that i could have a working camera.

Seems like some software fiasco that could be resolved. The camera still only activates intermittently after a few tries. I may set up an external.
