I got a pretty decent deal on an Envy 15 with dual 160gb SSD's. I want to make the Envy my daily user, but I am not too hardcore, so I don't really care for the 2 SSD's inside and would rather sell them and just exchange them with a standard HDD. What exactly would I need to make this work? I understand the caddy will probably either need to be switched, or modded in order for the 2.5" drive to fit, but will I need a different cable or anything else like that? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Aren't they the 2.5" intel x25-m?
You should just have to unscrew the caddy.

No I'm pretty sure it uses the 2x 1.8" Intel SSD's... Anyone else have any info?

yes, it is a special caddy inside designed for the 2 x 1.8" 160GB Intel X18-G2's and the raid controller with two sets of sata cables for the drives.

I'm not entirely sure, but I suspect you will need to buy the caddy and cables designed for the single 2.5" HDD, perhaps HP tech support can confirm. I do know that if you have 2.5" HDD and you want to upgrade to the 2 x 1.8" raid, then you have to buy the caddy and sata cable designed for 1.8".

    Ok ok I tell you.

Your envy has a "special caddy" with 2 1.8" intel ssd's each one has a special micro sata connector...

You will need a 2.5" caddy and the sata connector for 2.5" both are special designed for the envy 15.
I heard costs are: $50 for the caddy and $50 for the sata cable.

If I were you I would keep one ssd since you will spend $100 for the caddy + the connector + $100 USD on an hdd( a very VERY good one). Not very nice since those ssd's are worth ~$320-$350 USD each one if they are g2... If they are g1 ~$270-$310...

is the reason you want to change because you want more disk space? or you want to defray the cost of buying the laptop by selling the SSDs?

I couldn't help but notice that you want a large HD for your Envy. I just bought an Envy with a 500gb 7200rpm drive, and want to do the opposite of what you're doing.

Would you care to switch? We can include the connectors too so that everything will fit. If so, please email me, [email protected]
