Hello, I've browsed these forums for quite some time and have found very useful information here before. This is my first post to this forum after much research and no solution to my problem anywhere else. I would be very much appreciative if someone could help me or if someone else has experienced similar problems.

I currently own an ENVY 15 configured with the following specs.

    CPU - Core i7-820Q
    RAM - 8GB DDR3
    GPU - 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5830

My problem is this, I have spent a lot of time with AMD GPU tools and furmark finding a safe overclock speed (550/1100). The GPU seems stable and does not crash during offline gameplay. However when I keep these clock settings anything I do online oriented (games, browsing, DL) I get severe network lag. Online games will Lag out but with no drop in FPS just warping everywhere.

Has anyone else experienced this network lag due to the ENVY 15 GPU overclocking? Does anyone have a suggestion to how I fix the network lag and still be able to keep my Overclock setting?

As a side note, If I set the clock back to stock speeds everything runs fine.

Thank you all in advance! I look forward to seeing what you type!

Funny thing. I just recently started overclocking my 5830 yesterday. I was experiencing the same thing. I don't my have 5830 overclocked near as much as you... 550/925... but I would be playing mw2 and there would be moments when the game would freeze and go to a black screen, but then the game would resume with smooth FPS but my network connection would not continue until five seconds after that. I never experienced these issues before overclocking.

I would recommend turning your main clock down to 525ish and see if that makes a difference. Turning down it down to 525 did the trick so I don't experience those lock ups.

Thanks for the response, I just tested the core clock setting again and noticed a slight improvement. After a couple minutes the symptoms did however show up again. This is quite an odd problem as I have overclocked other computers without ever getting these errors.

    Thanks again for the input!

ATI's new GPU's starting at the 4XXX cards and up have a feature where if the GPU detects errors it will automatically try to fix them by lowering the core and memory speeds to reduce/eliminate the errors. Run a few loops of 3dmark 06. If it can pass that without failing, or going to a black screen, then your O/C is semi stable. If not you have push the core or memory (or even both) to far and I would back down the O/C.

Run Furmark. 3dmark never really even pushed the GPU on my Envy 17, so I suspect a similar response with the Envy 15. Furmark will definitely fully load the GPU and you'll be able to ascertain the stability of your overclock.

First off I would like to thank you all for the responses. I currently have been testing a new clock speed of 525/1000 and it seems to be stable during all of my network related activities (so far). Furmark is also giving me steady read out on my temperatures.

I am still open to suggestions people have to the issue on why this OC will mess up network activities but run smooth as butter offline. As for the time being I will continue to test the new speed and update this thread on network related errors that come from it.

    Thanks again guys!
