With the somewhat impending release of ivy bridge, how low do you think sandy bridge Envy 15 pricing will get? I'm looking to get a desktop replacement and don't mind older tech with new just around the corner, but would much rather get an Envy 15 than the DV6T, given the right price...

Currently, the cheapest price for a configuration you should buy is $1049.
My lowest recommendable configuration of the HP Envy 15 would be the base model plus the 1920x1080 display, because the HP Envy 15 is generally not worth buying without the 1920x1080 display upgrade. The stock display (1366x768) limits multitasking and productivity by making things onscreen big, and it delivers very poor image quality. It's a good idea to avoid 15.6" 1366x768 displays at higher budgets.
Note: While the HP Envy 15's 1920x1080 display has excellent viewing angles and contrast, it doesn't do so well with color reproduction. Reds are orange. However, the 1366x768 display has a significantly worse issue: low contrast.
Here is a saved configuration including the display upgrade. With coupon code NBR3576 it comes down to $1049.
This is $300 more expensive than a similarly-specced HP DV6: Newegg.com - HP Pavilion DV6-6C53NR Notebook Intel Core i5 2450M(2.50GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory 750GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 7690M
As for the price changing, my guess is that it will fluctuate with availability of different coupons much like the HP DV6 does. Some coupons would bring the DV6t Quad + 7690M + 1080p down to around $850, and others would be closer to $950. -
Totally agree on the 1080p screen.
If the Envy with the 1080p drops to around 800, I'd pounce on it. Currently for the right coupon the DV6 can be had for 600-700 (like the coupon earlier this week) so a 100 premium might make it worth it. Anyone have experience in Envy price drops to clear old tech? -
Is the Envy more expensive because of the design, screen and i7?

My question: how does the quality/specs of the dv6/dv7 1080p non-glare screens compare to the Envy 15/17 screens? Also, for clarification, is the top end screen for the E17 an IPS or 3D?
