    Looks like the ENVY 15 and ENVY 17 product names will live on!!! There will be a brand new lineup of ENVY 15 and ENVY 17 notebooks that are scheduled to be released on June 5th.

    There will also be an ENVY TouchSmart 14 model, which will offer a 3200x1800 resolution display option. This notebook will be released later in the summer.

    justinkw1--Thanks for posting this. Had just logged a post lamenting the end of the high-end, high-quality Envy laptops. Hopefully HP does/will have something ahead like the "old" Envy 14, 15 and 17 models. Just wish they could find that Radiance screen again!

    Thanks for the sleuth work Justin, that's exciting to see. I only hope that it is a reincarnation of the former ENVY 15 and 17 and not some type of watered down offering that we've seen with the likes of the ENVY 6t that really doesn't deserve to be called a premium notebook. Fingers crossed for high end design, premium processors and graphics. Keep us posted on anything else that crops up.

    would love to see envy 14 with radiance back as well! ( now that i have one , i see what the fuss was about)

    imagine:
    haswell cpu i5 would be fine
    HD 8850m , or something in that range
    with 14 inch radiance display , would be a very nice machine!!

    Following this forum for years and never a thread with information of upcoming product, especially for a new Envy notebook was so dead.

    I guess all the idiotic moves and stupid problems HP introduced with the Envy's the last couple of years really paid off....

    Congrats HP..

    I noticed it said the following

    Possibilities?
    •Intel versions may include 8-series chipset and 4th generation

    Core processor options (Haswell-based)

    I would hope that since Haswell are due out soon (june) that would be a given at this point.

    How about an option not to include a Blue-ray/DVD player slot (remember optional for those who may not want it).

    1 thunderbolt port (along with the 3 or 4 USB 3.0 ports)

    Good SSD+HDD options

    fyi - I am specifically referring to the >> ENVY 17-jXXX notebooks

    Maybe the new Envy 15/17s will finally have a touch-pad that isn't absolutely horrible? I don't think it's asking too much...

    FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thunderbolt would be amazing, as well as optionable 2k+ displays, and of course, 120hz.
    and nothing less than radeon #800m, better #950/#970m (according to some rumors even the 9000 series should come this year, so please skip the 8000 rebrands)
    and, of course, availability in EUROPE as well, not just US & UK :D

    Hoping for a great display, solid construction. no optical drive, support for 2 HDD and a switch to NVIDIA 750m because switchable graphics were always a pain.

    I have an Envy 17-3200 laptop and it is the best laptop I have seen to date, and I think the best laptop HP has made (I am including the Envy 15 3000/3200 along with the Envy 17 3000/3200). I was very disappointed that HP discontinued their best models. I hope that the new ones come with the premium materials of the 3000/3200 or even better materials. Higher Resolution I would not complain about and better battery life (though 3-5 hours with my 17 is amazing for how powerful it is). I like having a blu-ray drive and the ability to have 3 hard drives in my 17 (2x 2.5in drives and msata drive).

    Now if they come with an AMD processor, that would be interesting (with PS4 and the next Xbox having AMD CPUs and GPUs), AMD might start getting a leg up in gaming due to all games being optimized for them.

    best consumer notebook by HP, yes.
    however, the elitebook 8##0w series surpass any consumer notebook by far, and same with any other brand.

    if you want best possible quality with best possible customer service (yes, by HP ;-) ) and almost best possible performance (except from desktop hardware in a notebook by eurocom), go for an elitebook 87#0w, for a corresponding price of course. once youve worked with one of these, you realize that HP is able to make the best notebooks one can buy (however, they dont do that with most of their lineup, understandably).

    Just wanted to provide a clarification: the graphics options I mentioned earlier only pertain to the ENVY TouchSmart 15-j000 models with AMD processors.

    Here are the graphics options for ENVY 15-jXXX and ENVY 17-jXXX notebook models with an Intel processor (from sp61270):

    • Intel HD Graphics 4000 (IVY BRIDGE platforms)
    • Intel HD Graphics 4600 (HASWELL platforms)
    • NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M

    o_O I see. I am a bit behind on Is there any architectural changes going from 600s-> 700s for nvidia? I was thinking its all rebranding again. if it is rebranding its still fallng short since the 7750m is right under the 650m (or 750m i would think now). I guess now it depends on the body of the laptop. if its ultra sleek (like 3-4.5 lbs) then its a contender and maybe the price. the zenbook u500 is 4.7 lbs but with 650m however the price is steep

    --------

    EDIT: did some research, the 740m is a rebrand of 650m :( meaning not much improvement in performance section..... now all it depends on is form factor :p

    -----

    EDIT 2: From looking at the picture closely, it seems to be a merge of the newer HP ultrabooks and older envy 15. The speakers seem to be more refined and positioned like the other ultrabooks (but less maybe?). The inclusion of number pad+ fingerprint scanner was something iw anted from the older envy 153xxx butt something I had to sacrifice. I'm sad to see there is no audio knob (I loved the little wheel :(). The screen bezel, and body seem to be more compact (hopefully smaller 14in footprint with 15in screen?) with less wasteful space than the 153xxx. I'm happy to see that they got rid of the line on the touchpad. it is really useless and prevented the bottom quarter of the touchpad from being used

    NB: NVIDIA N14P-GT is 750M and NVIDIA GK208-ES is the new chip, however id rather place these specific ones in the low/mid-end range (but this is pure speculation), ie. 710m-750m for the envy 15; since 740m & 750m seem to be confirmed with this softpaq.

    ...would confirm the indication that they are again some thin ultrabook-like envies, and not entertainment desktop replacements the real envies used to be :(

    hope they put in some high-end radeon for the envy 17... at least 8800m, better 8900m, or even better wait for 9800m/9900m.

    I can confirm that the GeForce GT 750M will also be an option on the Intel-based models; thanks for catching this necrophyte! Updated the first post with this information. :)

    According to the nvhm.inf file found in sp61270, the 740M and 750M options will be available for both the ENVY 15 and ENVY 17:

    Code:
    NVIDIA_DEV.1292.1961.103C = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M" (ENVY 15)
    NVIDIA_DEV.1292.1963.103C = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M " (ENVY 15)
    NVIDIA_DEV.1292.1964.103C = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M  " (ENVY 17)
    NVIDIA_DEV.1292.1966.103C = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M   " (ENVY 17)
    NVIDIA_DEV.0FE4.1967.103C = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M" (ENVY 15)
    NVIDIA_DEV.0FE4.1968.103C = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M " (ENVY 17)

    It's gonna be total fail, if they decide to put only 750m into top new Envy 17 model, which is similar to 7850m. I doubt they will get with better design, than previous (3270-90) models, so no reason to upgrade notebook here.

    the 750m in the 15 makes it interesting.... if they decide to use ddr5 and the rumors are correct, then it should perform around a 670m which is impressive if this is gonna be ultrabook sized. as for envy 17 yeah it might be underpowered but they might have more options for the 17

    Looks promising. I hope they don't sacrifice build quality to get ultrabook thin-ness. If they pull it off then I may consider a third Envy rather than going over to Samsung's Series 7 or Asus's Zenbook line.

    Personally not a fan of the number-pad on the 15 as this typically means a more cramped typing experience.

    I think the hardcore notebook gamers typically go with more powerful machines. I believe HP is working on streamlining their line and removing all the crap (hopefully); 740m and 750m satisfies 90% of users - although I would have gladly welcomed more powerful.

    :( so basically a remake of the old envys with touchscreens, less speakers, no volume knob, with keypad, and slightly higher cpu performance.... in other words kinda a fail :(. was hoping for something more innovative...

    i dont c a disk drive on the envy 15 and they still coudlnt make it thinner than previous version? and not slot loading for envy 17?

    huh, well, the envy 17 is a bit bigger, however also thinner than the previous ones.
    dont think that the "dimensions vary by configuration" appendix applies to the total height of the notebook.

    this becoming thinner towards the touchpad/palm rest may be a nice copy of the macbook air, but i could imagine it also hinders heat dissipation inside the notebook, and also is a weak area regarding external physical forces :/

    so in worst case, this may lead again to heat issues, or even worse, to a less powerful or heavily underclocked GPU inside :(

    1800p resolution - great job, HP!
    now just put it also as an option for the elitebook workstations and envy 17, since these are the ones really "needing" such resolutions, not an ultrabook.

    nvidia gpu @ envy 15/17 - well, hope its more than just a 750/740m, otherwise itll be another envy 3000 series 7690XT like fail. even more hope that they get back to amd when radeon 9000 come out in late 2013. of course, everything optionable so those satisfied with this initial setup can stick with it.

    I wish HP would stop diluting the Envy brand. The change from DV to Envy after they got rid of the real Envy's was a poor move. The new laptops will be a Great upgrade to the quasi-Envy lineup, but still falls short of the current 17-3200 (non-3D) that I own, this is my opinion. Envy was meant to mean no compromise, these laptops unfortunately are full of compromise.

    Things I love about my Envy 17:
    3 hard drive slots (2x 2.5in and mSata, yes I use them all: 120gb msata ssd, 2x 750GB 7200rpm)
    Slot-Load Blu-ray player (I am a movie junkie)
    3-5 hours of battery life (hopefully a boost if I decide to switch to Windows 8)
    The 1080p screen with good color coverage and reproduction ability, also good angles
    2 diplayport and one HDMI for external monitors
    4 USB ports (I use them all at time, mouse, card reader, and external hard drives/thumbdrives)
    6 speakers plus one base speaker
    Easy and light to carry around (7.2 or so pounds is pretty light to me)

    Newer wireless tech (802.11AC), higher rez screens (than 1080p), and touch capabilities through all are very very nice, they are unable to compete with the list of above things I love about my current Envy that were designed to have a no-compromise mentally (not to say HP executed perfectly or without compromise).

    Thanks for the article, Andrew! Great to see that we now have a confirmed general availability date of June 5th for these models. :)

    Hopefully more information will be available for the ENVY TouchSmart 14 as the summer progresses...a 3200x1800 resolution display is just crazy for a 14" notebook! HP should really consider having this option available for the ENVY 15 and ENVY 17 as well!

    ok after reading the engadget article, i realized that its the follow up for the dv6(now envy) series. for that its a good update going from plastic+bulky to metal... still hoping out for a premium performance machine. i also noticed the new envys look deceivingly thin. the bottom is black. im happy that the envy 14 gets a high res screen (even if its overkill), atleast HP is showing its looking at the market. I hope for the performance models they have the option to have just fhd

    It will have 4 USB 3.0 ports and I'm not sure about whether you'll have access to two hard drive bays, but they said 2TB for storage which indicates there are two bays as they'd need to do 1TB + 1TB drives to get that. The weight is 6.4lbs for the new ENVY 17, so lighter than the 7.2lbs on the older Envy 17-3200. However, you do not get DisplayPort. I agree the slot load optical drive is much cooler and more premium than the tray look. I'm not sure about battery life or screen quality, the jury will be out on that until somebody actually gets a unit to review.

    Looks decent; I'll trust that buttonless touch-pad when I try it out in person...

    I'm assuming the display will be IPS; seems unlikely not to be in a FHD touchscreen.

    I am in New Zealand, and have seen typically we get pre-built models very early. Actually I would not be surprised if the some of the models have already been distributed to the retail chains here. This happened with a couple of notebooks I picked up last year although I wasn't so quick, but never the less they had been sitting at the shop for a few weeks, and was able to run a review of on these forums.

    The link below is showing a store ~5km from my house that will likely have them in stock, and if they are, they will sell me the notebook before the 4th of June (they don't know or care here), if that is even an issue as I see the release date is the 27th of May 2013 according to Wikipedia.

    Most interesting thing about it is the Intel i7-4700MQ Processor.
    Might call them in a few hour and see if I can get my hands on it, then it will be a question if I can afford it. Although I am broke right now after investing into a 13" retina mac due to being disappointed from the onslaught of crappy displays on most products.

    Also some online retailers are offering the Envy J's for sale from our NZ based price search engine. Click on product details and should list the specs such as 1080p, although I never take these to seriously, sometime they can be wrong, not certain about the 740M being GDDR5, but if it is not 2013 then that would be pretty sad.

    btw. In NZ we never get any HP's with backlit keyboards (except maybe on a couple of recent high-end ultra books) on every other models.

    Update ~18 hours later

    When into my local store, basically to buy a wireless keyboard, and found that the 15 inch model was not there. However the new HP Envy 17-J001TX model was on the floor on display, and they also had one exact same model in a box unopened for purchase, and that's it. I was not temped to buy this model, as it is using an Ivy Bridge processor and 7 series chipset in the new 2013 platform. What I can tell you from my very quick hands on, and a few photos from my phone (not the greatest quality).

    First thing I noticed, it stood out pretty easy from a distance with the silver alloy, and looks great. Very nice how the keyboard has been done this year, with what I believe is alloy between the chiclet keys. The keys felt nice across the board, but there is quite a bit of keyboard flex from the centre of the keyboard toward towards the caps lock key. The tack pad is fairly small although works well, and the clicking down required a small amount of force though not as tight as a mac, but no means to loose, with is a good thing, I would say better than HP has done in the past with this, aka 2010 models. The keyboard is an actual backlit type, which is a big plus for New Zealand, giving me the forward thinking this could now be a standard feature for all models, and not optional (as we don't get backlit in NZ on HP's half plastic models).

    The lid was hard to tell if it was made of alloy (which it looks like) or just some kind of high quality silver plastic. The bottom is made out of black plastic, this is very thick and nothing like the photos you see of the Envy 17 you see on the first page (don't be fooled into thinking there is no plastic base, it is the same as the other dv6/dv7 type models), in those photos HP have purposely cut off the black plastic to make it look like it doesn't have anything thing there, almost as if it has the tapper design of a MacBook air, seem to be a decent amount of removable underneath plastic covers for access to hardware. The palm rest area feel nice to touch, looking more like and similar to a mac (I guess that what HP are aiming for with the design, e.g. just check out the speakers, looks much like side speaker holes/grills of the mac 15 inch), with the alloy actually around the edges several millimetres, and not like the fake plastic looking alloy on the 2012 models. The cooling system vent holes look like there was way more of them, when compared to the 2012 models, as in there should be more air getting out larger holes and with increased vented area.

    Screen is 1920 x 1080, looked great straight on and bright, although disappointing to see it wash out fairly easy when tilled back, becoming darken with colour flip. Tilled forwards towards close (look for the top) the screen did colour flip although not so much but washed out pretty bad. Definitely not a great screen compared to the one in my 2012 dv6. Also point out the screen on this model is not touch screen. The rubber around the screen go right out to the edges, in line to fit the alloy body when closed (another mac similarly). Hinges (or lid may it be) seemed to pretty sloppy, in which if you push the lid when open, it would wobble back and forward a few time, not very tight.

    What is nice, HP are using an Intel wireless card. Also note there is something called WiUSB in device manager (not sure what this is). There is no SSD cache in this model. Big disappointment was the 740M, not only is it just DDR3, the bandwidth is tiny at 14.72 GB/s, and is just a 64bit memory bus (what are HP thinking!).

    I am told the 15 inch models will be in stock next week (next 5 working days). In any case, seems much the same build level as the dv6 with the Envy rebrand and yearly refresh, same as the late 2012 transition. For those still unaware, this isn't the same Envy build of yesterday when you got HP's everything design.

    Here are some photos, excuse the quality of them.

    Nice first take T2050! I'm actually glad to hear the bottom provides access to the internals and is not a total unibody type design. So long as it's a thick plastic there that will protect the internals I have no issue, I'd rather be able to get easy access to the HD, memory, PCIe slots and battery than a sleek 100% wrapped in aluminum with no seams design. The pictures you took aren't bad, it does look pretty good and much thinner than the Envy 17-3XXX series. Disappointing to hear about the screen and I would have much preferred matte.

    740m with 64bit bus width - it's never gonna be any good. Idiotic step by HP. Hope, there will be another solutions.

    I wish if it was coming without touchscreen, instead matte 1080p. The other specs are quite decent enough, but not sure if 8750M Radeon in level with 750M Geforce.

    @T2050 Can you comment on the build quality? Would this be a good laptop for someone as a MBP alternative?

    i think the new envys look decieving. HP decided to go with the curved bottom instead of just rectangle, if u look atht epicture it seems to extend quite a bit from the silver.... it might be thinner at the smaller end but when it curves out it looks to be of dv7 thickness like T2050 said.
    I don't think this will stand up to MBP build quality. I'm afraid this is just the next dv6/dv7 with a bit better materials? I'm still hoping out for premium
