So a few days ago I purchased a sort of custom ENVY 15z-j100 from hp.com. I'm still waiting on it and have a few questions. The HP forum users(staff actually) didn't really answer my many questions so I'll try my luck here. They told me to call HP but I know I won't get any answers doing that and I think they'll send me on the transfer ride.

First, I want to know what real people say the build and ship time for one of these machines usually is. I ordered on oct 17 and the estimated ship time is oct 28. Is it usually faster or slower than that? I heard some say on other websites that these are assembled in China and that has me worried that I'll wait much longer than that. Then I paid ten bucks for shipping. If it's coming from china wouldn't it take much longer than five to seven days? I don't need it right away, but I wish I could get it as fast as possible because I am excited and want to play around on it.

Second how well are these things vented? Are laptop manufactures finally getting rid of the heat issue? I have the specs of my new computer below. I'm not sure if it will generate a lot of heat or not. I've never had a overheating problem but of course my newest and best laptop is a compaq 61-410 . I would like to do some gaming on the new envy like RPGs and racing games like Nascar the game 2013. Now I'm not completely sure it will run some of the games I'm looking at but at low or medium settings I hope they work. I probably wouldn't be playing a game for more than a couple hours at a time unless it's really good. Would getting a 15 dollar coolermaster x slim cooling pad be a good idea or are these overheating issues on laptops greatly exaggerated? Then I hear people say these cooling pads don't work at all or very well.

well I can answer some of that myself. I ordered my first on on Sept 30 and estimated shipping date was Oct 14 but it was delayed til the 16 (HP gave a a 10% coupon for that) so the new estimated delivery was Oct 22 and I got mine on the 21 so it is actually faster than estimated (even though I'm not sure if I was lucky or not because I've heard lots of things about Fedex's amazing service :) ) I also ordered another one on the 17 and my estimated shipping date is also Oct 28. However, mine is an Intel based lap and I'm not sure about those heating issue but I can feel the heat coming out from the left side of the lap where the fan is when I put it on my lap. Other than that, it's pretty cool and acceptable when running intense stuff like video editing (I use handbrake specifically). if you said you're not a big gamer then it's fine. nothing to really worry about (except for the keyboard flex and the quite-hard-to-press touchpad)

That's really reassuring to hear. I'll just have to wait and dream about my new machine. The best thing I could probably do is forget about it though.
