I have looked over the forums to find this answer but can't seem to find in on the non-3d version so excuse me if I am bringing up a repeat thread.

Tried installing Skyrim on my brand new Envy! Of course, keeps forcing the game into Intel HD settings. I have run FRAPS on the game to make sure that it is not just telling me Intel HD and putting the radeon card in. I have called the "Platinum Level" tech support and they have no clue what the problem is or any solution.

I have set every program I know to High performance graphics and still nothing.

Does anyone have any advice before I just melt the whole thing down?

    Thanks!

    Goux

    Hi there,

I noticed that when I play Skyrim on my Envy (same model as yours) that during graphic property selection it may say Intel HD 4000, but when I launch the game it most definitely uses the 7850m. While in game MSI afterburner shows GPU usage on the 7850m hitting in the 90% range.

Sometimes it will not clock up fully (GPU clock sticks at 300 mhz), but a restart will typically fix that. I assume this is something that will be fixed with a driver update. The 12.5 beta driver seemed to do better with this, but caused me to have a black screen so I rolled back to the HP driver (12.3 i think?).

Hang on just a bit for better drivers and I am sure you will be happy.

BTW, what settings are you using and FPS are you getting?

I have tried both of those options, even just thinking it might have been mislabeled but on all low settings I am still only getting 8-10 FPS. I had an ENVY 1000 model and still played skyrim on higher settings than that with no issue. I am really boggled by this.

What about tesv.exe? I played Skyrim and afterward I check configure switchable graphics and this shows up with the Skyrim logo on it.

I can play with FXAA on, Filtering on 4, and most settings turned up high with FPS in the 40's or higher if I remember right.

That's my major problem here. I know the card can support it since the old card did but right now it is unplayable. I am attempting to work with the Executive office support on this and also tech support.

It sounds like the same switchable graphics problem that is happening on the 3d model but I can't confirm it yet.

AFAIK, the graphics problem with the 3D is that it does not use the Intel HD 400 at all. So this should be different.

I would try updating/reinstalling drivers if you haven't already, or you could try some of the newer Beta drivers. The 12.7 drivers seem to be good right now for me.
