just a short question, as i need to replace the ram modules on my ENVY 17 3D 1195ea (i7-720qm), and i thought of doubling the present 8gb - is it possible?

according to the service and maintenance manual, the maximum system ram is 8192mb (2x4gb), however i wonder what would actually be the limiting factor? maybe it is just because then (2010) more than 2x4gb werent available for notebooks?

has anyone tried putting a 8gb module into an envy 17 1100 series?

    thank you!

Hmm I am not sure if you are right.

I recall an Envy model having 4 slots for ram being able to rock 16GB.

Maybe it was the Envy 15 1xxx.

Begs the same question as you have already asked.

the envy 17 only has 2 slots, and the service manual lists all possible configurations up to a max of 2x4gb

What i meant is that maybe the mobo can support 16 even via 2, but I cannot confirm. Either way I am on the 17 2xxx machine with only 6GB :D

oh ok well thats what i also thought to be possible. since one 4gb module has died and i replaced it with a 2gb one for now, and then i got twice the system memory too low warning, i thought lets go for 16gb instead of 8gb when i need to buy new ram anyway, as until recently with 8gb and 6gb now, but dont wanna buy 2x8gb without being sure itll work.
