Hey, was thinking about buying a new HP ENVY 17, when do they normally refresh the 17 inch models? I'd like to purchase as close to a refresh as possible.

32xx was released in June iirc, just 3 months ago. I supposes next one will be after next generation processors are out.

If an update comes before next year it will probably only be making some optional specification standard, or a slightly better graphics card (7850->7870). Otherwise nothing else can really be upgraded without a total refresh

This Design is the best in the Envy series IMO so why would you want a refresh...

Honestly there's really nowhere to upgrade to right now or any time soon. The specs are super good!

Right... If I were HP I would wait till early next year and start a refresh assuming there's new technology available... Better Processors and better GPU options...

Well given all the complaints and the issues that have been harped on and on about on this forum I'm sorta expecting them to do a minor refresh or whatever you want to call it sooner rather than later....

But I've got some other stuff to deal with as far as money is concerned so I'm not going to be purchasing it for at least a month. So that gives me plenty of time. Just gotta save up the money between now and then as I'm paying off these bills one at a time....

Thanks for the info. I just didn't want to purchase too close to any updates. I shall proceed with my order. :)

At most, you'd see one in 2013 with the release of Haswell. You might see minor upgrades in processors (3720 to 3740, for example) and video cards, though nothing as a complete overhaul-type refresh.

Windows 8 is launching on Oct 25th. Wait and see what they do - perhaps add a touchscreen to the Envy?

Wishful thinking since HP seems to be going on a sort-of-premium ultrabook frenzy, but it really is the only model on which a touchscreen naturally makes sense. Its big enough to accommodate it and premium enough to warrant it. We can hope
