Hey everyone just picked up a new ENVY 15 from Asia. It was preconfigured on special with decent specs. The only downside is that it only comes with a 500GB hard drive. I was looking under the North American specs for the customizable model and noticed that there is an option for a secondary hard drive. Just wondering if anyone can confirm this? Don't want to operate on this beauty if the second drive bay doesn't even exist.
Cheers

Your envy does not have a second drive bay at present. the 2 drive envy 15 has 2x1.8" micro sata ssd or mechanical drives. The Envy is capable of running with 2 hard drives (has two proprietary sata connectors), but you need to purchase a hard drive caddy that comes with the cables from HP parts. So if you want to upgrade your Envy you can.

So to clarify, i can fit 2 2.5" drives if i order the connector(s) and the caddy? I'm NOT planning on running any SSD's in this notebook so the drives will DEF be larger than 1.8". I'm just scared that there is only enough space to run 2 1.8" drives and not 2 full sized ones. Thanks for the clarification. =)

there is only room for 1x 2.5" HDD or 2x 1.8" HDD. this is a thin+light type design.

If you order a Envy with the 500GB hard drive, does that mean that the 500GB HDD is the 1.8" type, and therefore you can add on an additional 1.8"?
-
No, the 500gb drive is a 2.5" Hitachi. i don't think any 1.8" drives are capable of 500gb.
-
what are the models of the 1.8" SSD & HDD?
-
you can buy different model 1.8" drives. the envy comes with either a Gen 1 or Gen 2 Intel SSD 160GB or a Toshiba brand mechanical hard drive (250GB). Toshiba actually has a 320GB 1.8" drive I would love to buy but can't seem to find a reputable seller in the U.S.
