So I have XP Media center currently on my dv2000t. I want to install it on my home computer and was wondering if I can just use the same license on my laptop for my home computer. Can I have MCE running on more than one machine with the same key? Also, when I receive my Vista upgrade kit, can I just run MCE on my home computer as the sole machine. Any legal experts out there?

    It could work, yes.

    But legally, no.

MCE's (and all versions of XP) is a one machine license...so no you shouldn't do that.

The Vista upgrade effectively does a "trade-in" your XP license for a Vista license as well.

Finally, your XP license is an OEM license on the dv2000t. This means that legally you cannot transfer the license to another computer. Same goes for your Vista upgrade.

The best thing I can recommend is get the Vista upgrade for your computer and then purchase a new retail version of Vista Premium for your desktop. Then you have a retail version that you can transfer if/when you purchase a new computer and you wont have to give MS another dime after that.

The OEM version is locked to the BIOS and Motherboard of your laptop so it won't pass through the online activation after install.
