I went through the same dilema and decided to go with the R3000T - looks better, better volume buttons, black on the outside (won't scratch), nice keyboard, HP has a "lip" in the fron when closed...

You should definetly go to Circuit City, CompUSA or Best Buy and check em both out to see which case you like more. Other than the case and the speakers (which are both excellent as you'll see), it's the same machine with HP about $20-$30 cheaper...

other than the cosmetics they are the same except for speakers.
HP has the better speakers, but Compaqs are still very good, and some people don't like the style of the HP ones. I would def go to a store and compare the two side by side any HP 5000 series and any Compaq 3000 series as the only differences are visible in all product lines.

Your specs are great for playing games. Some people may frown (using 42 muscles) about the screen resolution being too low, but I think it's fine. The HDD RPM should be faster, but it's not available for the 100GB HDD's. Maybe an 80GB 5400rpm HDD would be a better option. It will allow for faster load times for your games and will definately help in the image editing that you want to do. The larger the images, the longer to load, but with a faster HDD, it should reduce the overall time. Otherwise, everything else looks good!
