Though I second, third, fourth the motions here: given what you own and what great new notebooks you can get for comparatively little money, I would advise you get the new laptop as well, but....

This new product is pretty freakin awesome! Unless it is old news to many and I am late to the party, this is truly a "holy grail for throngs of users with really strong laptops with years of life, but crappy gpus (I resemble this remark, with a 9 month old HP DV8 with a very middling nVidia GT 230M gpu.) or only integrated graphics. This has been an elusive option to the dismay of thousands of people over the years - just Google it.

EDIT: maybe not :( I read another place that the GUS will only power an external monitor. Takes it down from a possible mass market accessory to specialized for gamers with crappy GPUs in otherwise solid laptops - yet again, the DV8 owner who is a major gamer (not I) might find this to be a holy grail!

Thanks for pointing it out, VVOOBBLL, but yes, do spend the bucks on a great new lappy: Acer 5740G or 7740G, Lenovo y460, HP dv6 (when great coupons are out), etc. So many awesome products released for under $1,000, even under $800. G'luck! :) :)
