To those with the current line of HP & Compaq consumer lappys, I would like to know about Quickplay deletion effects concerning a clean reinstallation of Windows and/or hard drive replacement. Now I guess the buttons would no longer work, but will device manager show several "unknown" devices because of the lack of Quickplay? Also, would there be any boot errors because Quickplay does not exist?

Simply put, I'm asking if it is possible to have an issue-free experience without having HP Quickplay present on the machine? This is not something I will really need (and I never had it on my Compaq V5000).

    Thanks!

Quickplay is just a piece of software and removing it wont affect the hardware or wont show any unknown devices in the device manager. If you are buying a HP system with Vista pre-installed it wont even have the directplay(bootable) part of Quickplay.

The only HP softwares which install drivers are Quicklaunch buttons and the webcam(if equipped).

Thanks, Miner! I was hoping to hear that. :D

That is odd. Do you know why that is? Is it something to do with the way Vista's boot is set up over XP's?

Close. Here's a working theory, sort of:

Not me! I'd rather be without it anyway. ;)

I'm sure HP will soon have their own workaround for this. Quickplay is pretty pointless without the boot option, as it would be no different than any other software DVD player IMO.
