I have just taken delivery of an EliteBook 8750W with a physical hard disk. I have a Kingston 512GB SSDNow 100V+ SSD that I could use but am tempted to fit a more modern SSD either a crucial MX300 or a Samsung evo 850. The question is will I notice any performance difference between the older SDD and either of the 2 newer ones? I do a certain amount of image processing but other than that my use is the usual mix of office, web and email. Any one got any experience of their relative merits?

Its gonna be a big difference since your old SSD is most likely a SATA II while modern SSDS are SATA III. The max speed of SATA II is 300mbs (3gb/s bandwidth) while SATA III is 600mbs (6gb/s bandwidth). You're better off getting a modern SATA III SSD since they'll have much better sequential read and write speeds, Despite of what i said your old SSD will still be much better than any mechanical hard drive.

Thanks, yes that seems logical, I'll have to check on my Kingston drive specs.

In the end I went with the Kingston SSDrive I already owned, You were right it is many times quicker. When I'm next feeling rich I may layout for a Samsung Evo or something equally clever but happy for the moment.
