Hey Folks. I posted this question in the "What notebook should I buy" forum as well. Not sure where I should post this actually.....

I'm getting ready to sell off my x61t and am looking to go with something portable. I have found what appears to be a fantastic deal on a "recertified" 2530p. I can load it up with 3rd party components and get everything, including a docking station and stand, for far less than a new machine. But I have a few questions I'm hoping some of the experts here can help me out with.

    1. Does anyone have any experience with "recertified" (which I take to mean refurbished) machines? Are they fixed up to be like new?

    2. A technical question and I hope you will excuse my ignorance. I have never owned a solid state drive but the performance benefit looks great so my plan is to rip the hard drive out of there and replace it with a solid state drive. The technical manual and reviews I have seen for this machine indicate it is pretty easy to do. In reviewing the HP specs., it notes that the regular hard drives are 2.5-inch and the solid state drives are 1.8-inch.

    "Hard drive
    80 GB 5400 rpm 1.8-inch SATA II
    120 GB 5400 rpm 1.8-inch SATA II
    160 GB 5400 rpm 1.8-inch SATA II
    120 GB 5400 rpm 2.5-inch SATA II
    250 GB 5400 rpm 2.5-inch SATA II
    160 GB 7200 rpm 2.5-inch SATA II
    320 GB 7200 rpm 2.5-inch SATA II
80 GB 1.8-inch Solid State Drive"

Most of the solid state drives I have found are 2.5-inch. Why is HP using 1.8-inch and does this mean I can't plug a 2.5-inch solid state hard drive in there? Is there anything besides the size at play? This has me confused and I'm wondering if you can help.

BTW, the SSD I am looking to throw in there is:

Patriot PS-100 PS128GS25SSDR 2.5" 128GB SATA I/II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

    Thanks in advance.
