Is the problem with your speakers playing back what you recorded? Or your mic not functioning at all?

I'm not too sure what your problem is, but it might be with the IDT Sound Drivers. You may want to uninstall those and install Realtek Drivers for your speakers. I've read some HDX16 users do the same thing, with mix results though.

To test whether your mic hardware is functioning, you can try (if you haven't done yet) installing the Free Audio Editor Audacity, which can be found here.

To test your mic follow these steps:
    1. Open Audacity
    2. Go to Edit, then Preferences
    3. Under the Audio I/O Tab, go to Recording and see what Devices are listed there. (I use a Dell XPS M1530 and I have two devices there: Microsoft Sound Mapper-Input; and Microphone Array SigmaTel High).
    4. If you have any "Mics" listed under Devices, enable it.
    5. Press the Record button (the big Red one)
    6. Test your mic.

If you're mic works, you'd see wave lengths of what your recording while it is recording.

You can also test the playback of your speakers by going back to the same Audio I/O Tab in Preferences and checking which devices you can enable for Playback.

    Hope it helps...
