Hey guys, I am trying to enable AHCI on my HDX16t so that I can get the most out of my intel SSD X25-M.
I plan to do a default system restore by using the "Clean Vista install WITH NO ACTIVATION" thread with an original vista CD.
    1) Anyone have any ideas on how to enable this?
    2) Is it enabled by default?
    3) And if so, how can I tell?

    Any help would be nice!

I believe that AHCI is in BIOS, as i just read, doing a quick google search.

Check your BIOS for an AHCI Setting. ;)

I've been there and can't find how to enable it because I simply cant find it. Which BIOS tab is it under?
Google isnt helping. I've been searching for a while now.
    Thanks for that quick response.

Hmm, i dont know then. And I couldnt find anything either.

Seems that HP might have removed or locked out the option. They do that with a couple other things too.
...You might want to give them a call, but it probably wont help. If they locked it out, they did for a "good" reason (in thier minds), so probably just wont unlock it or tell you how to do it with a phone call. If its possible. But you could give it a shot...

I find it funny how no one on this hp forum knows how to access AHCI in BIOS! Argh! So frustrating!

Make sure that you have the Intel Matrix Storage Manager installed on your computer. The latest version (v8.8.0.1009) can be found at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17412. MSM should install a configuration/control panel that should let you configure the mode that your drive is in.

You can check in the Windows Device Manager to see if AHCI is available on your computer. Just look under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and you should see that the SATA controller is labeled AHCI.

That's a good question. I'm not completely sure, but you might be able to check whether you are actually running in AHCI mode using the Matrix Storage Manager control panel. The SATA controller is certainly capable of running in AHCI mode, but whether it is on or not I am unsure of since I don't play around with it. :)
