I'm getting an SSD tomorrow and have ordered a caddy for my current HDD to replace the slot-loading DVD drive. However, once I take the optical drive out, I don't want to leave it sitting around. I wanted to get an enclosure to put this in. Are there such things as enclosures for slot loading dvd drives? If not, do you think I would be able to get a regular enclosure and just not close the front so that I can just stick a CD in?

    Hello iNoob.x ,
I am trying to get a caddy for my Envy 14 to replace the slot-loading DVD drive and wanted to know where you have purchased the caddy from and was it difficult to install? Cheers.

There are enclosures for the laptop CD/DVD drives. This one might do, but I haven't looked into it much so you should look around before you buy. Amazon.com: Slim external USB 2.0 Black CD/DVD Burner Enclosure case For Laptop Notebook slim drive [ only case included!! Dimensions: 5.2"(W) x 0.8"(H) x 5.5"(D) ]: Computers & Accessories
I bought this one eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices and it fit perfectly. The process was simple but you just need to be very methodical with it. Don't mix up screws or anything and be careful.

EDIT: Didn't realize this thread was resurrected from last year, anywho, I'll just leave the information for the first quote for anyone who might need it.
