Anyway, the shop wants $580 just for the part and more for labor. Could I get it on my own cheaper or what? Should I send it into HP for repairs? My warranty was voided by the repair shop opening it up, but I didn't have accident protection anyway.

I really want to get it fixed. I paid $1200 for this thing :(

    Any advice?

There's no way HP can find out that they took it apart, but you don't have accident protection.

You could always send it in and hope they don't notice you spilled anything...

Well wait, there are no warranty void stickers on the Envy 14 mobo afaik. I've never gone as far as to remove the entire board but I've done work on my trackpad and keyboard.

You can still send it to HP primarily. I would go through the mobo and remove the water damage indicators if there are any if anything.

To be honest though, the price from the repair shop is kinda on par with what I'd charge. The motherboard is the main part of the laptop.
If you can find the specific part online somehow maybe you can pull off something cheaper though.

If you gonna be stuck paying $580 + labor I would just consider buying a used envy from ebay (I've seen some for $600). You'll have spare parts and if you sell those parts you might be able to offset some of the cost for a new mobo.
