I feel for the Fed Ex guy though, he carried it up the stairs and looked worn out!

I'm opening the box now, no camera so I'll just have to describe it in a little bit.

Ok first impression, when I removed the laptop from the bag a screw hit the table. None are missing so I have to assume one got dropped into the bag along with the laptop, I don't see any scratches though.

Aside from that so far so good, going through initial setup now, did I mention how big this laptop is, yeah, it's friggin BIG. :D

I have a pair of 24" Dell LCD's, it's nearly as big and the WUXGA resolution ROCKS. More to come, it's going through the HP software install....

ROFL ya bloatware to the extreme! The worst is probably norton but you can get a removal tool from their official site (you can try add/remove but norton can be twitchy so I'd advise the removal tool). Oh yeah and give us pics! :)

I'm old hat at removing Norton. :D The SIMS was almost 3 gigs, I have a Slingbox Pro at home and the HDX comes with Quickplay settings for the Slingbox so that's cool. I'm installing updates and Dreamscene now, after that Stardock's add on for Ultimate and then need to choose AV software...

Ok, I chose Windows Live Onecare since I have it on all my other machines and the Onecare circle works well.

So far so good, the speakers do sound pretty damn good for being so small and the machine is speedy now that I removed a lot of the reminder crap and bloatware.

More to come and pictures tonight.

Have pics, unfortunately they are in my wifes camera which she has with her. :(

I bought 2 HD DVD's on the way home, first impression, they must be regular DVD's on an HD disk because the picture was a bit grainy. Serenity was a good movie but HD camera's weren't used I'm sure.

I'm going to use Blue Planet tonight and see how that looks. Next, Media Center doesn't play HD DVD's?!?!?!? I could only use HP's Quick Play to play HD DVD's, that isn't the application I prefer to use so I'm going to see what's available. Sound, while very good while listening to movies it's just doesn't play loud enough, if you're right in front of it, then it's fine, otherwise movies are too quiet.

    For music, this thing rocks.

Next, build quality, fantastic, the thing feels like it's made from solid steel, the base has zero flex and feels extremely solid.

    I'll post more later..

    Hey there

Just got my HDX as well. What a beauty.

I was wondering how you found the bootup and loading times...Mine seems a bit slow for such a high end machine...not sure if it's those poxy 4200rpm drives or not.

Would like to hear your expreiences.

    Cheers

Mine boots up very fast, I have the 7200rpm drives installed. I'm finding Dreamscene just as unstable for Vista 64bit as it is in 32bit, so much for that. However the machine itself is fantastic, movies could be louder though, but I already mentioned that. I'm going to try and put a small review together, been very busy though. Maybe this weekend.

If you're looking for a way to carry it around I found this for the US.

Yeah I have a feeling it might be the drives...I'm gonna swap them out this weekend and drop another 2 gig or ram in and see how it goes from there. Unfortunately we can't configure these prior to purchase in Australia the way they can in the US so I was stuck with this setup.

Cheers for the link to the bags, I've been wondering about that :)

Totally agree with you on the volume thing...only real disappointment so far.

    Cheers

Thankfully Costco allows you to customize the machine, it plugs into HP's system to do so. Unfortunate that you have to go out and buy faster drives, nobody should have to endure a 4200 rpm spindle speed in such a high end machine.

I'm going to do a review of the HDX against the Voodoo, Acer and Dell competition. I'm trying to see if I can get a unit from each company to do a review, I have yet to see a review comparing the three. I doubt I'll get them but I'm going to try.

I have had the HDX for 3 weeks now, i got one of the completely decked out ones off an ebay auction, the highest of every option, 4gigs ram, x7900 core 2, 500GB HD, $3300. Love it so far.

But, i am trying to set up a dual boot with XP and have found it to be a huge problem so far. The harddrives are too advanced for the XP software and special drivers are needed to be implanted into the XP install software for the install to recognize the Harddrives. I am doing this because i will be running Solidworks engineering software on the machine and it will not run on Vista 64. I am having a friend that knows a good deal about computers custom makeing the disk right now. We'll see how it works. If it works i will share the disks when im done.

Does anyone know where I can get a 20" Laptop Bag from? I was in the UK, and the website above http://www.shopeezee.co.uk was out of stock at the time, now I am back in France on vacation for a few months, and cannot find anyone out here that has any 20" bags, i came across a site called http://www.nextdaybags.co.uk and they appraently also have 20" bags, but they are in the process in re-designing their site, anyone heard of any sites in France?
