    Well, it wasn't my rep, another member, I forgot his name, but he had talked to an HP rep at best buy, so I think it's pretty legit.

    About the hard drive space, actually it has more, has options up to 640 GB :D

    oh was it the one where the hp rep told him that he hasn't been briefed on the prototype yet and they'd only come out 2-3 months after he has been briefed?

    so i was reading through the HP Envy 15 (gen 3) service manual that "moviemarketing" provided, and i found out some information.

    SOURCE: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02131229.pdf

    on pg 20 (or 28/109)

    ========================================================
    (14) PM57 PCH Peak-M system board with 1 GB of dedicated video memory
    (includes replacement thermal material)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    600292-001 SPS-PCA SYSTEM BOARD SF BROADWAY PM55 X 600292-001
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    SPS-PCA SYSTEM BOARD FF MADISON PM55) 600293-001
    ========================================================

    So, names:
    Broadway = ATI Mobility Radeon HD 58xx
    Madison = ATI Mobility Radeon HD 57xx, 5650

    However, both motherboard variants have a PM55. This means no switchable graphics. :mad: Gawd i hope that i am wrong on this one!

    I am actually secretly happy about this, in a bad way. Won't make me feel so back about having a G2. But, whats that about a PM57? A typo then...?

    Apparently there was a PM57 chipset that was initially scheduled and then canceled.

    "Due to a lack of customer demand and the desire for a simpler product stack (five mobile chipsets is already a lot), PM57 has been canceled. The HM57 will offer a similar feature set with addition of switchable or discrete graphics. "

    HP may be replacing my Envy 15 soon but I rather wait for a refreshed model. Hopefully soon. I would ask to upgrade to the 17 but my back (that I bought specifically for the 15) wont fit any larger than a 16" notebook.

    I dont really play it anymore. I beat the base game, all of the expansions, and even did most of the PvE dungeons. It is a great game, alot of fun, but I was getting bored doing the same stuff over and over, even when i was playing a different character class... By the time that happened (~2yrs ago), i didnt want to upgrade my computer to play new titles, because i wanted a laptop as my main computer, so i bought a PS3. (You could say that i have been spying new laptop technology for 2 years)

    GW2 is supposed to be ridiculous, with a more diverse class system, modified environment interaction, and upgraded graphics (of course). I'm really looking forward to it, and it is the primary driver behind the required specs of any new laptop that i purchase. :cool:

    Basically, I am hoping that there is an Envy with an ATI 5830 w/ switchable graphics. But from the documentation that i have read, it looks like the best i can look forward to is the 5650 in the Envy14, or *maybe* a 5730 in the Envy15 1200.

    I'm still hoping that they could put the 5730 in the 14, although by the looks of the holes, it should be only one fan for the gpu and the cpu

    There's only going to be the 5650 boys, give it up. :p

    I'm concerned about the heat though. I noticed on the 13 the entire back edge is a vent, and then a vent on both the left/right sides.

    The 14 has a small vent on the right and a small one on the back. I dunno.

    We'll see I guess how it handles all the heat.

    The 5650 is actually the same chip as the 5730, 5750, & 5770. The only difference is the clock speed of the core, memory, and whether or not they use GDDR5. So in fact, if you overclock the chip & mem appropriately, you can have a 5730!

    Yes I know that, but as you see the possibility of higher oc in the chip of a 5730 is greater. Both 5650 and 5730 use DDR3 or GDDR3 I think the 5750 opens the possibility and the 5770 uses GDDR5.

    But the problem is that when you add GDDR5 to a card it greater by a huge amount the wattage consume of the chip. And the TDP gets higher as well.

    I think that If you can go to a 5730 (and that's my hope) that has TDP of 20-25w, you can go to 5830 that has a TDP of 24w.

    Yes delusional I know, but hey we can dream right?
