    hey guys,

What would one need to install one or two 1.8" drives into an Envy that came with a 2.5" drive origionally. I'm a bit confused since 2.5" drives are regular SATA connections, however, 1.8" drives are microSATA. That seems to be the 1.8" drives bracket must also include microsata adapter(s)? Or are there just 3 ports in the drive bay?

What bracket is need and where to purchase? Or does it come with the laptop (it should, IMO.) or is no bracket needed?

    I found this at HP:
    http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/PicPop.aspx?mscssid=4D26BC0E64F34DECA1B0D0CC70ED6051&PN=576829-001

is that the right bracket, or is it the bracket that comes with the 160gb SSD replacement part? "160GB 1.8" SSD with bracket" (for $560, sheesh.)

    thanks.

I'm interested in this as well. I didn't buy it with a dual HDD solution, but would like to add another HDD.

Why don't you just buy a 1.8" microsata to 2.5 sata adapter. I believe there is one that was offered with the danelec version of the intel x18m g1.

    This is it: http://www.expansys-usa.com/d.aspx?i=190718

Maybe someone here bought the danelec package (it was on sale a while ago) and can confirm compatibility.

I don't get the difference in the pricing for the following two replacement parts:

    576826-001 In stock
320GB Solid State Drive (SSD) storage drive - 1.8-inch form factor - With mounting bracket
    RoHS: Modified
    904.40

    576826-001 In stock Exchange 2
320GB Solid State Drive (SSD) storage drive - 1.8-inch form factor - With mounting bracket
    RoHS: Modified
    666.90

I believe you would also need this one if you don't have the dual 1.8 disk cage in your machine currently.
    576827-001 In stock
Hard drive mounting hardware kit - For 2.5-inch drives
    RoHS: Modified
    50.35

The difference between the first two is that the cheaper one requires a core exchange.

as far as the brackets, etc. I think I found what's needed...
    576830-001
    576829-001

two of each. Which brings cost to over $200... not acceptable for something I feel should be included for the laptop for a $10 set of brackets and cables. I am still talking with "escalation"

Wow, what the heck. The price is ridiculous for a mere hard drive bracket. I wonder if I can get my own pieces of plastic or something and just make it fit.

MY solution has been to cancel my order and re-order with the 2x160gb SSD upgrade selected. It is a good value for $550, they really should charge $1000 for it. It is $880 in retail cost of SSD's alone. Apple would probably charge ~$1500, that is, if they even offered an upgrade of this caliber.
Now my system is delayed to May10, however :(
