Envy 13 got a combined headphone and mic connector but how do you hook up a headset to such a connector. Can you even use a headset on the Envy 13?

Im tempted at getting a Envy 13 now that HP are giving a good discount. Would love the Envy 14 but its twice the price and I need a small and light laptop.

the envy 15 also uses a combined headet/mic connector.

if you currently have a headset with dual plugs, you would need to either use an adapter or adjust the audio settings on the laptop so that you are using the headset with the mic that is built in to the laptop. many headsets these days use the combo plugs.

Thanks, I noticed that there are USB-headsets available but they cost quite a bit. Think I need to reconsider my needs as I could get a Envy 14 for the same if I start adding up the costs for a USB Headset and USB DVD that would be needed on the Envy 13.

The Envy 13 just got one 3.5mm port while the Envy 14 got two.

I thought these two ports on the Envy 14 were for headphones and microphone?

If I understand correctly, you currently have a headset with dual mic/headphone plugs and you can't use it with the combo jack.

you should be able to get an adapter that is very cheap that allows you to use your current headset with the laptop, either one that combines the dual plugs into one 3.5mm plug, or a usb adapter that has dual 3.5mm mic and headphone jacks, like this one on Amazon that only costs 29 cents:

or this one that costs $4

    Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Go

When I must use a headset I use this x-fi usb i got like a year or two ago... Works perfect and you do not even need to install the xfi drivers for it to work... Plus it sounds better then 95% laptops internal sound cards... only the beats in the envy 15 sound a little better

Thanks for all the replies, had no clue that I could use a adapter. :D

Guess its back to try and decide what to buy then, 13 or 14.
Getting a E14 with the Brightview doesnt seem like much of an upgrade from the E13 as its still the same resolution and going for the Radiance E14 makes it twice the price of the E13. (Radiance E14 is only sold in Sweden bundled with the slice battery and 6gb ram)

It really depends on do you want to be able to play games from next year on near max or do you just need a computer for work/school and dont give a crap about games
