    Hello all:

I have an Envy 14 (i5) 1st generation laptop with the radiance screen.

I just purchased an HP external monitor (2311x) and am trying to connect it to my Envy. The monitor is not displaying the images on my laptop screen despite using the fn+F4 hotkey to show the image.

I connected this Envy to other monitors at Staples using my HDMI cable and they all showed the image on my laptop screen. I tried the 2311x with an old laptop using the VGA port and it worked.

This is the second monitor I received from HP (the first one didnt work).

Please help me fix this problem! I would like to show the laptop images on this monitor

    Thanks!

Make sure you've switched over to use the ATI graphics card or HDMI will not work..

Has anyone successfully plugged their HDMI monitor into the Envy 14 (1st Gen) and had it work automatically?

    ehhhh....

    it won't turn on automatically.

I had to do FN+F4 and/or FN+P until it was set on the other projector.

To get it to the right resolution I had to mess around with stuff some and turn on the 1080p@60 stuff if it was a HDTV

it would seem your hdmi cable and that monitor don't mix (apparently lots of the HP 2x11x monitors have issues with some hdmi cables)

so, try another one. What cable do you have and where did you buy it from?

'cause..you can get cheap ones from amazon/monoprice and it may work with that.

otherwise it could just be that monitor series is kinda..well..**** when it comes to hdmi.

in which case I'd return it if you still can and find something else

HP2311x LED Monitor having HDMI problems - HP Support Forum

so try restting/setting it for hdmi/whatever.

if that doesn't work, again. you could have a second faulty monitor (this is apparently happening a lot with this monitor) and yeah I'd return it if you still can and buy a different monitor altogether.

Theres really no tricks when I do this.. just make sure ATI card is enabled, and I hook up my Envy 14 to my Samsung 46" LED TV. Maybe every now and then I need to use the F4 key to select projector only.. maybe reinstall stock drivers?

well looking around on the internet, that specific monitor seems to be very hit or miss when it comes to the hdmi input.

So..something is malfunctioning/was shoddily designed with respect to that monitor. That or it requires more power to drive the signal (it seems to work more often with 3 foot cables instead of 6 foot cables)

again all of the above is just anecdotal evidence from the hp user forums thanks to google searching (not much from any actual HP support)

The HDMI cable that I have is a 6' cable from Monoprice. I went to Staples today because they got a new shipment in and I tried this 3rd monitor with my laptop and the NMonoprice cable. It worked at the store.

When I got home and tried it, it didn't work. Not sure what is going on here.

Got the 2311x monitor for a good price at Staples a few weeks ago. Thats the only reason I am putting so much effort into trying to get this model to work with my Envy. If the price wasn't as good as it was, I would have went with a different monitor all together.

On that note, if I cannot get the Envy to work with this monitor - any suggestions for a 23" monitor for a good price (~$100)
