    Hi guys,

Weird question. I bought this Envy 14 about a year and half ago and my order clearly states that it comes with Bluetooth ( Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth). However I went to use my bluetooth today and there's no bluetooth device anywhere. I tried to install the broadcom 2070 bluetooth drivers listed on the site, and it can't find a device either. So I opened up the computer and the Intel Wifi card installed is model 622anhmw (Advanced N 6200-AGN), which according to the internet doesn't have a bluetooth component.

Basically, could someone with a working bluetooth card for this generation of Envy (model XQ705AV) tell me what card is installed on their Envy? I'd really appreciate it.

Ok, so, I figured it out partially.

There is indeed a second module for the bluetooth and my computer indeed has one but it isn't being recognized by the system. So, either it's dead (is that even feasible?) or maybe the port it's on is disabled in advanced bios?

Is anyone able to tell me which port their bluetooth module is on?

Your bluetooth is switched off. Go download HP Connection Manager and use that to turn it back on. That is the only switch you have for turning bluetooth on/off (the connection manager) independently of your wireless (which you turn on or off with the keyboard shortcut key).

Basically it works like this. keyboard shortcut key turns the radios on. Then they look to see if the connection manager has set them on or off. If bluetooth was set to off (it's off by default I think) well it won't turn on with the wireless. IF it's set to on, it will turn on and off with the wireless.

Hmm. So I tried that and the bluetooth doesn't show up in the connection manager either. It's really strange. Any way you can think of to turn it on? I think either the unit is dead or the port is off or something? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Well first it won't show up til you have your wifi turned on just to head off that weird bug.

The only other options now are to just take out the battery, unplug it, hold the power button down for like 30 to 90 seconds and then boot it back up and see if it shows up in there.

If it still doesn't show up you can put the computer to sleep and wake it back up (this was how we got the drivers to install before we realized connection manager did stuff right).

Either way show me a picture of what your connection manager looks like.

    This is mine: [IMG]

just use the snipping tool to get a screenshot and upload it to imugr or something.

Anyway my network card and bluetooth are the same ones listed that you have. I believe the bluetooth radio is not integrated into the network card. Not sure where it is in the laptop. I'll go find the old (now kinda not online) service manual pdf and see where the bluetooth radio actually is.

OK yeah the bluetooth module is hiding in that rectangular thing on the front of the computer and cannot be reached without taking off the top panel.

Said top panel can potentially be a pain because the touchpad, power button, keyboard, and keyboard light cables are double taped down and do not have enough slack to life the top panel up all that much without ripping one of the cables. This is primarily from personal experience and uh ripping my touchpad cable.

Here is the service manual and how to take everything apart (though there are some minor differences/it never mentions parts that have double sided tape keeping the cables in place): c02280351.pdf

My connection manager looks just like yours but with no bluetooth device. I'm pretty convinced its a hardware thing and i ordered a replacement part on ebay for 10 bucks. I open up my envy a LOT (I don't even screw the thing back together anymore) so this should be an easy swap and I'll report back.

Thanks for being so helpful with this computer over the past 1.5 years I've owned it. Something for you to put in the back of your head as you're the authority on Envy 14s: I was getting constant BSODs and freezes and the crash reports indicated a "usb device" I was also getting connect/disconnect usb device sounds when opening and closing the lid. I disassembled the whole thing, took the screen out, and indeed, the webcam/mic cord was out of its port. Snapped it back in and all is well. Just FYI in case someone else has that issue.

Hey guys also have a bluetooth question.

I bought a pair of JF3 headphones (bluetooth 2.1+ EDR) but I know the 1st gen envy only has 2.1 bluetooth adapters.
I tried pairing them, windows said it was trying to install device drivers, it failed and I can't connect to these headphones even though they show up on my "bluetooth devices" list.

    Any help would be appreciated!
