Does anyone have any experience of this screen?

As i unfortunately have to order from the UK, it means i'm going to have to bend over and accept the non radience screen :(

Anyone have any idea what it's like, i know i'll be losing screen real estate (love that expression :p) but what's the quality like?

Any input would be great gents :)

I suspect the quality will be similar to their other laptops. Try going to a store and looking at one in person. I say that they are average for laptops really.

Tech wise is it not the same as the Envy 15 though? and we all liked that, no?

the envy 15 1366*768 screen was hated by all, the 1920*1080 ultra brightview was much loved. The lower res screen was given to the countries with a less knowledgable laptop audience... e.g. the UK where people rarely investigate thoroughly what a laptop offers them before buying it. You and I and a bunch of others on this thread are part of the tiny minority that does try to do their research

Ha, guess we'll have to stick the "HP UK are wankers" adage then :p

Suppose it's mild comfort to know that Brightview screens can be decent though...

the ultra brightview 1920*1080 is actually brighter than the radiance display but colours are less vivid is what i've been told.

That's odd, never figured the UK for a bunch of slack jawed tech yokels dragging their knuckles when they buy laptops, but I'll defer to you. Plus it's more fun to think so.

I have an E15 with 1920x1080 and my wife ordered one with the same display; however, HP made a mistake and sent her one with 1366x768.

Maybe it is because I have become accustomed to the 1080p screen, but the 1366x768 now feels almost like I'm looking at the screen of some old computer from the 1980s.

My wife's MBP has a 1600x900 display which looks great, the only real difference noticeable vs. the 1920x1080 screen is during video playback of HD videos or blu-rays. The E14 is not available with 1080p display; however, I believe there is a 1600x900 option.

Let me just say the Envy's 1600x900 screen screen is amazing. I upgraded from a Macbook (13" 1280x800), and now my Macbook's screen just looks terrible in comparison. A 1366x768 screen is gonna look pretty pixelated, barely being able to do 720p as it is, and on a (rather large) 14.5" screen. My 1600x900 Envy downscales 1080p, and it looks awesome, as do games at its native res.

How likely is it that we may be able to upgrade the screen later on by buying one off the internet? Is this something that is easily and often done with laptops?

Im sure screens will eventually become available through the internet, how much they cost and where they ship from however is something no-one will know. If the UK ever gets the radiance screen (possibly as a 2nd generation model) then yes you'd be able to replace the Brightview screen with the Radiance.

I've not had a look at the service manual for the Envy but if it's anything like my Dell Inspiron then swapping screens isn't that difficult (depending on your level of computing knowledge)

EDIT: Page 75 of the service manual found Here has the information regarding changing the screen

I'm wondering if these extra screens will be available soon.
And I sure as hell hope they are not $300.
if HP drops teh price to $200. I will bite.

Screen Country has the replacement screens for all of the Envy models at pretty reasonable prices, but they only have the the HD versions of the E15 and E17 screens. the E14 screen is only available in 1366x768, however, they do have a Matte version which is not available from HP Direct:

Strangely, in addition to 1920x1080, they also offer a 1600x900 display for the Envy 15, which I have never seen offered anywhere else.

Nice finds. Thanks for sharing. Is replacing a screen just a plug and play thing? I've never done it before. Would putting a Radiance in a non-Radiance Envy 14 be just as easy? A matte Radiance would just be  perfect

People exaggerate about the 1366x768 screen. It's really not as bad as people make out.

I've been using it for over a month and haven't noticed any pixelation or graininess. Not very many people on this forum actually have the 1366x768 screen and I think they just make stuff up sometimes.

Unless you need a ton of screen real estate then I just don't think it's worth an extra 300+ dollars to go with the radiance screen. If you feel like getting a refurb then go for it but I personally think a lot of the hype is overblown. Of course, I should say I haven't actually seen a radiance screen is person but I have heard reports from both sides.

Well once you go radiance, its hard to go back. Ive never seen a radiance display either, so for me the brightview is excellent quality, better than most notebooks most ive seen.

I just got my new Envy 14 with the regular Brightview screen this evening, I am coming from an old Dell Inspiron 9300 with a LG 1920 x 1200 lcd display that was really good. So far the regular screen isn't too bad. It's viewing angles aren't too good, but the colors seem fine and I don't see any pixelation, it looks pretty sharp for the most part. Due to the angles the blacks are not that great. Overall I think it's an okay screen with good clean white's and good colors, and it is definitely a bright screen. I ordered a Radiance from the HP Parts Store so if it comes in I'll post a comparison.

It's not terrible, but just annoying that the only option that the UK had was for the lower res screen. I actually tried to send an email to HP regarding possible upgrades, when all this stuff about Radiance being back in stock came out on here, but getting information from 'support' is like getting blood out of a stone. So far I've reiterated my question 3 times, each with the same nonsense asking me for my serial number, despite my telling them it the same number of times.

    Morans.

I'm somewhat saddened by what I read in this thread. These are not the ways of Good Old American Freedom!

Anyways, if you look at the current spec sheet for any of the Envy Models that are currently in production(Ie, the envy 14, the envy 14 beats edition, and the envy 17) you will notice that they ALL have "brightview" displays. So while the Envy 14 is equiped with a lower resolution screen than the Envy 15, the LCD panel is of a higher quality. Not only this, but the pixel density is higher.
