I've had my new Envy 14 for a little over a week, and generally I love it but I'm having a trackpad issue that I'm not sure is normal. I've fiddled with settings a lot but still have a problem where on every 3rd click or so (I click by tapping, not using the "buttons" and I have a really light touch, I'm not tapping too hard), the cursor jumps a tiny bit and so my click doesn't do anything, or sometimes it clicks on something close to what I'm aiming for.

I have the 'broken' and Reil's drivers downloaded and I'm going to try them, but first I thought I'd put this out there to see if it's something that is happening to others. If it's not and my trackpad is defective I'd rather just return it and re-order rather than hassle with support and the possibility of more problems down the road.

If you've had this problem, what did you do to fix it? I'm familiar with the settings and I've tried most everything, so I don't need possible suggestions, just specifically if it has happened to you and you fixed it, what did you change.

I know this has been said before, but jeez you'd think the trackpad would be the easiest thing to get right. There's so much to love about this laptop other than that!

    Thanks,
    Stacy

Doesn't sound normal, tapping is rock solid for me even if I move my finger over a bit.

Also, if you do have the second gen envy, don't use the broken drivers. You already have a later version of these drivers, what the broken drivers do is make every touchpad be recognized as the pad that's currently in the second gen envy to unlock other features. If you have the second gen envy, you don't need the broken drivers.

Thanks so much! I've been holding off on the drivers until I could do some more research and I appreciate your advice saving me some time.

The more I use it the more I feel like it's defective.

Doesn't sound normal to me either. I've had my Envy 14 for about the same amount of time as you. I just spent some time clicking by tapping (the way you do it) and I haven't experienced any movement while tapping. Now, I have "enhance pointer precision" turned on (checked) in the Mouse Pointer Options and maybe that has an impact on that result, even though I have the pointer speed turned up to maximum sensitivity.

That said, where I usually have a problem is when I try to reach down for the buttons, but only half hit the button. That seems to confuse the trackpad and it half moves the cursor and then clicks (which sounds like the behavior you're describing). Of course, in my case, it's entirely my fault for having clumsy fingers! I guess that I should just stop trying to use the hardware buttons. I went and configured the two-fingered press to bring up the context menu (right click), so that should successfully eliminate the need for the buttons!!

    the Envy's touchpad is a p.o.s ... I use a wireless mouse whenever possible.

have any of you guys used the new imagepad to edit photos in the likes of photoshop CSx, Elements, or Lightroom? wondering how the transition from discrete buttons to the new style would go...
