best bet for that is osiris batterybar and its guesstimate.

baterry bar does give me good time estimation. It updates pretty quick when I change from power saving to performance and vice versa.
However, it still cant give a discharge rate. Technically it should be able to do that as it is a simple watt usage / time ... -
ive had battery bar since day one and it says 51060. there has to be a program out there that works.
-
Yeah battery bar doesn't seem to be working... I've been on the computer for about an hour and a half and it says I only should've been able to be on battery for 1 max, and I have "32" mins left.
Has anyone found a solution to fixing this battery issue yet? I'm getting my refurbed radiance tomorrow, so I might not even have to deal with the issue assuming everything is ok with it. On a side note, I'm not even sure I hate the BV display, besides the smaller viewing space (resolution).
The color and viewing angles are fine, shrug... -
60,058 mWh and 0% battery wear.
I got 3.5 hours tonight. -
Batterybar takes at least 2 weeks to become some what accurate and it does get pretty accurate as time goes by. i feel like a parrot repeating that fifteen times a day.
Its the discharge rate on the newer (January envies) that just won't read correctly. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
huh. I still get roughly 4ish hours on my envy though again that's not using much in the way of youtube browsing.
watching 720p video (like 7 episodes of some tv show on hd .mkv files) I got 2 and a half hours. -
Just curious, what is your charge rates (those that got theirs january and after) not discharge rates. I want to see if it accurately can display the charge rate not the discharge.
Mine says 6,926. -
Holy crap battery bar is saying my discharge rate is 8,347 as opposed to 51,060 it said for the past month. wow, i wonder what happened? anyone else have this happen to them as well?
This is so freaking awesome. Now i know for sure it is functioning right. -
My discharge rates seems to work also when I'm using my slice battery. But when I remove it, it goes back to 50,060. Are you using the slice?
-
Spence, how many times have u cycled your battery?
-
No I'm not. Earlier yesterday it read 51, 060. I did notice that when at some point before it started to work that in the start menu, the shut down button had the exclamation point meaning there were updates going to be installed. That may have nothing to do with it.
-
Probably average one cycle a day since I've had it.
UPDATE: well it seems this morning when i turned it on that its back to 51,060. i h8 u batter bar/ motherboard -
When i unplug my envy it states a correct dischrge rate but once it is restarted it goes back to 51,060 until i plug it in and then unplug. wonder what this means? maybe the motherboard isn't that crazy.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
it means the motherboard is bugged a bit or something.
who knows. Maybe it's reporting how fast it charges (takes roughly an hour so yeah) -
it reports charge rates then when i unplug it, it will report discharge rates. if i start the computer without it being plugged in first it states 51,060.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well it's just a guess. It's probably just confused/broken and I dunno why it's doing what it is doing.
-
I had the same battery/discharge rate issues. I just received my envy 14 a week and a few days ago. i5-580 250gb ssd. I downgraded my bios and now my discharge rate is 12k....from the regular 38-40 i got constantly and battery life has improved about 1.5 hrs. Still getting 7 hrs with Slice though. wifi and med brightness...think i can improve
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
hmm. maybe the f.23 bios has issues with the new run of envy 14s
-
This is really weird, battery life seems to go normal with the slice..my internal battery lasts about 3 hours, but when I have the slice on (after it dies to 0%), my internal battery gives another 4 hours. And the discharge rate goes to 10-12k only if the slice battery is on, otherwise its 51k
-
whats shocking me also is battery bar says my battery has a 2.5% wear already and my slice has a 3.4% wear...ive had the lappy for only 2 weeks and its not always been lugged in.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well that's normal. Your battery (unless you are extremely lucky) will not be at 0% wear when you get it from the factory.
it'll range from 0-5% wear. Mine was at 3.8% or something -
I had my old Envy for a month and it was at 0% wear the entire time according to Batterybar. I barely use my new Envy but it's at 0% wear. The slice battery is also 0%. Did you guys fully charge it when you first got it?
-
What version did you downgrade it to? And where did you get it? I only see F.23 on HP site
-
i5 560 6gb ram
640 HDD
Slice
40% Brightness and connected through lan...light browsing
Wifi off
Power Saver Plan
Around 7 hours of Battery life showing -
on the hp site yu can select "see previoius versions" right beside the highlighted bios.
I downgraded to f.12. -
Hey Waleed, how do I send you a pm? I am interested in that envy you are selling.
-
I think you need to have at least 10 posts to send PMs..whats your email?
-
so its been about 2 and 1/2 weeks since i got my envy. the battery lasts about 2:30 mins time tested vs the battery bars 2:45 mins.. is there a defect in the battery should i get it reconditioned? minimum browsing occassionally every 10-15 mins i visit 2-3 webpages, mainly word processing, brightness at 50-80. no media or anything on.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah that doesn't sound quite right.
you may have gotten a battery with extreme wear on it.
I still get roughly 4 hours after owning the computer for over 6 months.
barring that something is using up a core of your cpu or something.
be it flash stuff, or some broken program or whatever -
i get ~2 and a half almost 3 hours on HP Recommended settings
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
maybe they gave you guys weaker batteries. mine is a 59200 Whr (with a few % of wear so more like 56800 or so whr)
-
I have an i7 envy and I am only getting 1 hour and 10 minutes...
Its [email protected] -
yea they used to be 59whr but the ones ship with 56whr. Still doesn't explain the problem because my old battery gives me 3 hours in my new Envy (gave me 4 in my old one) and the new battery works just fine in my old Envy

Hi guys. I have a huge problem. I followed a little this topic and I see the most of you have more than 3-4 hours battery life with i5 core cpu.
Here is my problem:
i5 580M
4 gb
Seagate Momentus XT
clean install w7
I only surf internet, listen music, video, no intense task. With wifi on, 60% brightness, intel graphic card, power saver battery option, and when I look at the battery icon, what do I see?
100% battery = 1h3min!!!
I tried it a lot of times. Always have around 1h5min battery life with full charged power. So I wonder how you guy could get so much battery. Do I miss something? Is there something to change in CPU settings? I see that many people have the hypernate off.
I am really frusted with this miserable battery life. This laptop is said to be having long battery life. But I am very disappointed. What's happening? Do you have any ideas? Thank you in advance. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well. quick question. did you time that battery life.
there's a known issue with the current run of envys where the thing will display the wrong battery life but will actually last the correct length of time.
it's a bios and/or hardware issue for the battery display stuff.
edit: now whether hp knows about this.... -
Kyoka Suigetsu Notebook Consultant
When I made my last post, it remained 90%, and now 53%. I only surf internet.
It seemed that the timer is true. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
no I mean. the % is wrong and the timer is wrong.
it should (assuming this is what other people are getting) last at a low % for a long time.
I'm not sure though. may have to look through the past few pages in this topic. -
Kyoka, I just go my Envy 14 3-4 weeks ago with Radiance screen and Windows 7 estimates 1hr on a full charge. However, my computer lasts upwards on 3-4 hours real world time. Its some sort of bug. If you install battery bar, you will see it says the computer is dischargin at a rate of -51,060 mW, which I assume this is what Windows 7 sees also causing it to estimate only an hour of runtime.
I dont think anyone has been successful yet at what it causing this.. -
I downgraded my BIOS also and now my discharge rate is fixed, it says -14k. Haven't tested real life usage yet though
-
this doesnt improve actual performance, just the estimation?
-
cpu runs at 0-25%, i only do browsing and word processing, btw i have two batteries along with my customized envy 14.. both running at real time test not battery bar or windows battery. both battery timed by myself ran about 2- 2:30 max.. what is wrong? should i downgrade my BIOS, does that actually help with battery performance?
-
Kyoka Suigetsu Notebook Consultant
Ah, ok. Thank you for your reply. I don't try if the timer is wrong or not. When I see the battery life reachs 43%, I connected the AC adaptor, and I don't know if it will last around 3-4 hours real world time.
I will test this tonight. -
Well after a week or so with batterybar im still not even getting a 3hr estimate. And timing the computer i get something like 2 and a half hours with full brightness and just surfing.
Pretty bummed out about that. -
Just tried it again with High Performance, Full Brightness and just surfing.
With the ATI card I got 1 Hour and 50% left.
Would the Intel GPU make a huge difference? -
The integrated graphics are one of the main reasons why the I5 gets twice as much as the the i7. thats why when you unplug it prompts you to switch to intel. Otherwise there is no real reason to have switchable graphics.
-
I have the same problem. Discharge rate is set at -51mwh. Should I just uninstall battery bar?
-
Maybe its a math problem and how the new bios/mobo is representing the number. If you look at the charge rate, its around 41 or whatever, and the discharge is -51 ish. That makes sense given the 10mwh or so average of these machines..
-
Can anyone test the firmware downgrade and see if it actually makes any difference, or if its just that it reports the discharge rate correctly? I can do it myself but If its already been done, it would save me a lot of time.
-
What do you mean by 10mWH avg? 10mWH discharge? Latest BIOS here and it's reporting discharges normally.
BTW, I'm getting a bit less than 3 hours on an i7 when web surfing with HP recommended + CPU tweaks. Idle time is estimated at around 4-5 hours, but I doubt the accuracy of batterybar
