With the appearance of a $300 coupon for an Envy 14, I attempted to order an Envy 14 Beats laptop only to receive an error from the online configuration gadget. I called HP and they told me that orders for the Beats edition have ceased as parts are no longer available. She couldn't give me a date when orders would re-open, which leads me to believe there is some sort of a supply issue inside HP if one of their flagship products cannot be delivered. Oh well, I'm pouncing on the first big deal of old technology that gets made by either HP, Dell or Sony. I'm tired of waiting for SB and since there will most likely be issues with first gen tech, I'm just not interested in dealing with it anymore. An i5 with switchable graphics will give me the battery life and power I need for this year and most of next year.

P.S. I'd order from the business outlet except the 45% off deal on refurb Envy's is no longer available unless it's a really old envy (13 or 15) model.

First of heard of this. Amazing...I can't believe HP is having all these issues...Radiance, now Envy 14 Beats short on parts...just nuts. :p I'm just wondering how and when HP will get out of this slump.

    KJ

I'd summize that they planned to have SB versions of their most popular products out by now which is why they probably reduced inventory of older tech. However, due to delays they are finding themselves in a pinch because they no longer have older product to sell nor newer product available. They can't offer good deals on product they don't have.

I'm also guessing that they are having problems integrating SB into their current model configuration since ALL of their competitors have announced March dates for SB laptops. I'm also keeping my eye out on Alienware; it will be expensive but as much as I care about looks, I'm about to throw in the towel on Envy.

I was hoping to get a Beats to cover me until the end of this year and then I would buy a 3D model towards the holidays. However, if I have to pay more than $1k for a "temporary" laptop, then it will have to be "temporary" for about a year to justify the expense of a new one. I was hoping to pick up a cheap Sony with the trade-in program but by the time I brought four old laptops into my local store, the guaranteed $100 eCoupon deal was over and they offered me nothing for 3 of the 4 computers I had.

I spoke with an HP rep, they didn't even know Intel had started shipping the new revision Cougar chipsets a while ago. The rep also told me it could be a couple months, perhaps April before SB Envy's are even announced specially she said for their premium series like the Envy.

She also said there would be a revalidation period, however is not sure.

Now@ The Beats issue, apparently there was an increase in build date of around about 10 days to just yesterday for the beats. (I was building all types of configurations before I bought mine yesterday).

Yesterday the Envy 14 Beats/Envy 14/ Envy 17/ and Envy 17 3d all had estimated build dates of around the 13th of March, now today they are estimated for the 16th of March while the Envy 14 Beats jumped from the 13th of March yesterday to the 23rd of March today.

The issue SEEMS to be the Radeon HD 5650 DDR3 for Quad cores, since as soon as that is selected the estimated date of the 23rd is selected while the switcheable Radeon HD 5650 DDR3 for dual cores is still put for the 16th.
EDIT: Now it seems to be "fixed" estimated date is 16th for either graphics option, what the hell is going on with HP?

Well being as I am disapointed in the leaked 13in MBP specs I guess I'll hold off for a new ENVY14 and hope for an 1600x900 display. Even if its not as good as Radiance.

Crimsoned, not sure how you are getting that info, but I choose the base i5 option off the main Envy 14 beats product page and clicked "add to cart", then it threw an error. I called HP and they informed me of the problems with the Beats edition.

I guess it's possible that i7's are in stock, but I don't want to deal with heat issues.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beats is no longer available for now.
I bought Beats i5-580 on jan 15th with ship date of feb 1st and its still not shipped. It got delayed twice and the newest ship date is 2/26 (this friday). HP Rep told me the same thing that they are short of parts.

I guess I just have to wait and see. If they don't ship it on friday, I am gonna buy dell xps or alienware.

Because I used $500 off coupon to get beats i5 for $900. Plus due to second delay they are giving me refund 10% off my order price. :)

I think he was referring to your comment about buying a dell or an alienware (ie a dell or a dell).
