    Hello everyone,
I recently purchased an Envy 14, with the lower res screen, as the Radiance have been gone for a while. How does it compare with other laptops of the same caliber? Like the Dell XPS and whatnot. I'm pretty happy with the screen as I've used a 1366x786 for quite a while now (laptop before the Envy), but if the Brightview screen is far inferior to other screens of the same price range, I may consider returning and re-shopping...

    Thanks in advance.

Comparisons? and is the Brightview less bright than the Radiance? Or is it just res?

Same brightness. I've never seen a radiance but someone posted the other day that he did a side by side comparison of the two and the difference wasn't night and day.

Its a nice screen just not the best. I'm very happy with mine and i thought the whole time it was in production that i'd hate it.

Read the radiance screen thread here it has lots of user opinions.

That was me. The guy upped the brightness all the way on the Radiance and I did the same with my brightview. I was expecting much higher brightness but it was almost the same side by side with 100% on both. IMO radiance has better pixel density and thats what makes it look good. Sure I'd like to have it for the extra screen estate and a bit more clarity (higher res wise) but quality wise, its pretty similar.

Hmm...all this fuss about BrightView and Radiance has really caused a scene I see. I just got my Envy 14 Beats today; yet to unbox (will do that later this evening) and once my *BrightView* screen isn't cracked, has a bunch of dead pixels or the like i'm sure i'll be very happy with it.

And if the info. in this post holds true about the color gamut and max. brightness, and the only difference between the two comes down to resolution then that's not a 'deal breaker' for me as I honestly don't care for a 1600 x 900 resolution on a 14" screen.

What I would really like to see is some sort of Review (whether video/picture) that directly compares the two screens side by side. I'm also curious to know the truth behind the withdraw of the Radiance screen.

I suspect the main difference is the resolution, personally I'd rather have the 1600x900.

    who wouldn't?

unless you are using this strictly for gaming, 1366x768 has no advantages over 1600x900. I'm getting a external monitor over xmas so i can be productive with this laptop when i'm not gaming =P

i would have gladly paid $100 for an upgrade to a radiance, but ordering a separate one from the parts store for $360 is not something i'd do

The 1080p panel on the Dell XPS 15 is quite nice. Dell's regular lower res panels blow.

While I can't say for sure, I can tell you that the brightness and contrast on this panel are the best I have seen on a notebook. Right now I'm running at 51% brightness and it is VERY bright. Any higher and it's almost too bright to look at for very long.

The speakers are amazing for a notebook, and you won't find complaints about the touchpad either. The biggest complaint I've had is a sloppy thermal paste application done by Dell, which I fixed myself. The backlit keyboard is nice, though I wish it had an island style keyboard. Perhaps with a refresh it will, and I can replace this one.

Dell's support and driver pages sucks compared to HP. Overall there are trade offs to be had with each machine, but I really enjoy this Dell, and I never thought I would say that about any Dell product.

All the reviews for the Envy 14 that test the screen have been testing the Radiance screen, so I too am curious what kind of specs the BrightView Infinity has.
