    Hello,

I my bro is looking to by the Envy 14, I just read that in June 15th the updated model is suppose to come out.

So my question is, should he just buy the current model or wait for June 15th?

He cannot wait for too much longer after the 15th.

Basically a desktop replacement for light gaming, notes, watch TV on it, auto CAD..ect

Nothing that the current model cant do its just he will have this laptop for 4 years+ so Buying the latest version is best.

So that's why I am wondering if he should wait and have to be with out a laptop for a few days or just buy the current model.

If price isn't an issue for him, then he should definitely wait if he's gonna keep it for 4 years.

Personally, I decided to get the one currently out but that's because hp is rolling out all these coupons for their last gen models, I thought it was worth saving $250 instead of getting a slightly better improvement. If your brother is willing to pay more though, he should definitely wait.... a month is not a long time compared to four years :p

If he really does need a laptop now, he could order the last gen Envy right now.... and then return it once the new one comes out and buy the new one. HP allows you to return laptops for full refund up to 21 days after it's delivered.

I donno about the ethics of buying a laptop knowing that you're going to just return it after the new one comes out but the 15th is the day you can start ordering so add on another 2 weeks for build and shipping you'll get it end of June or early July. If he can't wait until that long then just buy the current gen.

You should see a pretty significant battery performance boost, especially if he's considering the i7 in the current model. Video card should be a good deal better as well (assuming it's a 67xx and not a 65xx).

What you can count on with waiting is pretty much a faster processor.

What you can expect with waiting is a better touchpad (the current one being considered by many borderline unusable, though I don't mind it with a few tweaks), better cooling, and better battery life (though how much better is in question).

What you can hope for with waiting is notably better graphics capability.

That said, as mentioned above, a smart shopper could probably save at least a couple hundred bucks buying the current generation now rather than buying the SB generation in a month.

it all depends on what you need it for and what you want to pay.
The current Envy 14 is pretty decent with most games and everyday computing. You can get it cheap with a coupon also, I think $799 for the default model at the moment.

The new SB one won't be discounted for a while and will most likely cost $1199 or so.

So it's your choice between :
    - ~$800 for regular envy
    - ~$1200 for SB Envy with maybe ~20-30% more CPU power and ~15% more GPU power.

SB cpu performance (if you go for the quad mobile) will be more like 50% better,
GPU is unknown (some say 6630M, others 6750M)

I should wait, unless you want to save money or get the radiance screen
