    Hey guys,

I've been mainly happy with my Envy except for battery issues and poor HP customer service. That, it seems, has been resolved, but I have now been having problems with charging time.

Is it normal for the charger to take 4-6 hours to bring the battery to full? It definitely didn't take this long with my old macbook. I also get a message every time I plug in the charger telling me that my smart safe adapter (or whatever it's called) isn't as powerful as it could be and HP wants me to buy a better one to charge faster.

Could this be a charger problem? a mobo problem? Any and all help is appreciated!

    Thanks

it could be they sent you the wrong charger.

this happened to a few people.

mine charges from like 20% to full in 2 to 2 and a halfish hours.

now I don't have the slice so..if you have that, it might explain why it's taking longer but if you're getting that charger message you probably need to contact hp and get them to send you the correct charger.

mine maxes out at 90 watts it's on the power brick somewhere in tiny letters.

sounds like you have a 65w adapter (you want 90w)

I have the 90W adapter, and periodically I receive the same message. Doesn't seem to cause a problem, but it does happen.

Thanks everyone. Now is there a chance the charger is mislabeled? It does say 90w on it despite the long charging time.

Does it just take a ridiculously long time when it gets to around 90%? I think that might be by design.

well if it gets ridiculously long at 90%, that's 'cause you have quickcharge on and it's looking for the slice or something.

or you have the slice in and it's charing the slice now.
you can turn that off and have it charge the main to 100% and then slice to 100% in the bios somewhere

I decided to do a little experiment. First, I don't have a slice installed. But I turned off quickcharge all the same.

Then I started keeping track of the battery levels.

    1:30pm - 8%

    4 hours later, 50%

    1 hour later 70%

There must be something wrong somewhere right? It's not the best experiment because sometimes I was using it and sometimes not. But I was using it to surf the web and stream a 20 minute tv show, for perhaps half of the time it's been charging. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks again everyone.

Edit: The battery also never charges past 90-91%

Oh man, I ran the HP support assistant and did a battery check. It tells me to replace the battery.

This is already my second battery from HP. Does this mean there's a bigger problem?
