Who here has that annoying clicking noise when u tap the touchpad?
Has anyone sent theirs back and was able to have HP repair it?
I love everything about the laptop except for this touchpad and that noise really ruins the premium laptop feel.
I'm still debating if I should have HP fix it or can live with it..

Though you need to "tap" it pretty hard for it to click ... -
Like the others said, if you push down on it then a click is normal, but you have to push it pretty hard. If it is clicking when you just tap on it then i think something is wrong.
-
yea the light tap click is a common issue. You can see a few videos of it in youtube. It's just a poor design. Hopefully the new 4 point click style will not have this issue.

I dont have this in my beats edition..but then again, people who have the beats edition dont have any of the issues at all (keyboard flex, clicking pad, etc.), I dont understand why they have them in the regualar Envy..maybe the beats edition is built in another department has more "qualified" factory workers? Im returning my beats to get the reguar Envy with radiance but im worried it wont have the same quality

My first Envy 14 did that regardless of where I tapped or how hard - very annoying. My replacement Envy 14 (received this week) only does it if I tap on the left half of the touchpad and only if I tap a bit harder than normal. In normal use, it doesn't make any sound at all.
-
You can send it in, but do you really want to be two weeks without it?
My recommendation? The touch pad is capacitive, you don't need to strike your finger on it for it to register, lightly stroke it. -

Thanx for the response guys! For some that said about the click, its not the click where the left button would be, its when i do a tap light which normally shouldnt make a noise but it makes a clicking/clank type of sound.
It only does this on the left side of the touchpad.
I really wouldnt wanna be out of the laptop for 2 weeks, but I definitely dont think I can live with it for its laptop's life. So maybe Ill send it back later down the road.
But if Spencerp is right and someone fixed the problem themselves, I might have to look into that..
I just wanted to see who else had this problem, and what are u guys doing with it. -
I'm getting this too and it's annoying. It makes the metal chassis feel like plastic when that noise comes through. Could someone post the link to the fix (if there is one)? I searched the trackpad thread but didn't see it.

*bump*
Hoping for a link or solution to this problem. I've noticed threads where people have opened up their laptops. It looks like the black trackpad comes off with the keyboard panel. If this isn't too difficult I think lining the edges with thread seal tape could solve this problem. -
* update *
I opened up the laptop and removed the trackpad. I lined the edges with black electrical tape and also put some tape to pad the sides. This has pretty much eliminated the problem. I can still hear a very slight rattle on certain sections but it sounds "natural" now. -
Glad u got a fix! So from what ur saying u just put electrical on both sides (left/right) of the touchpad to keep it snug, and that was it?

I'm having this problem with my touchpad and its driving me CRAZY ... Anyone else manage to fix this issue? It looks like pongalong did .... but I'm a bit wary of opening up my laptop to fix it ... is it relatively easy?

Hey all, sorry I never posted a follow up. But to the people that are having this issue: if you feel confident enough to open up your Envy and remove the keyboard/palmrest assembly you'll see the trackpad clearly. All I did was put some soft black electrical tape around the edges to eliminate the *tap tap rattle* noise. A very low-tech solution but it works.
You should be able to find the service manual online or on these forums (try the owners lounge) that will guide you through disassembly. Tricky parts are handling the ribbon cables and removing the palmrest, which is on there fairly tightly. A good tool to have would be a non-marring prying tool (you can actually get plastic tools made specifically for this) to help wedge the palmrest off. If you don't have one a sturdy guitar pick or something similar would work as well. Just don't use anything that scratches! You could probably do it all by hand, but it'll make it a lot harder.
