When I first received my Envy 14 and did a clean instal, whenever I would pull out the powerplug it would give me the option to switch GPUs. I recently installed an SSD and did a clean instal and whenever I pull the plug now, it insists that I close all applications before it will allow me to switch the GPU. Was my previous experience a mistake or glitch?

Having to close all applications each time really sucks and I would like to avoid it and didn't experience any problems doing so previously. Please let me know if you are aware of this issue. Thank you!

Does it say "cannot switch at this time" or something to that effect? If so, it's specific programs using the GPU / preventing it from being turned off.

    In my experience, that includes:
    Photoshop CS5 (gpu acceleration)
    X-win32 (for unix stuff)

programs that will let you switch but will then proceed to not work:
    flash video
