I have used my laptop and connected it to my LCD TV on and off for the last few months. However, when I connected the HDMI today the screen turned black no image came up on the screen and when i disconnected it it stayed frozen and I was force to do a hard shutdown. any ideas on what could be the problem? (I already checked the hdmi cable and the tv)

Maybe try reinstalling your ati drivers and see if that fixes it. Hopefully it isn't a hardware problem.

I tried to reinstall the drivers and it keeps doing it. It will just stay black and freeze no image comes up on the LCD and if i disconnect the HDMI the laptop screen stays black until I force shutdown

The latest driver packages have had an updated HDMI driver...maybe try one of those?

I ended up fixing it except I had to install the original drivers for my laptop otherwise the new ones would not install even after uninstalling both video drivers and running Driver Cleaner

Did you try turning on the discrete graphics before plugging it in? Sometimes Intel alone doesn't play well with HDMI.
