I'm using ATI graphics, and the only program running is steam and tf2.

    Any solutions?

really. like i'll be playing 10mins of the game, then suddenly, it will hang, the music would be on a cycle, and i'll have to force shutdown. ctrl-alt-del works only sometimes

Based on anecdotal evidence, I suggest you:

    A) Manually set your system pagefile to 6gb / 1.5x your ram. (Make sure you have enough free hard drive to take it off automatic.)
    B) Underclock your GPU with MSI Afterburner.

I wouldn't underclock the GPU further, I mean its already at a ty 450.

This hanging problem does not happen with me, I've played TF2 for two hours today and nothings happened.

It's great that your Envy 14 games fine, but some of us don't share that experience and need solutions. Hence, me offering the only two solutions known on this forum to have solved such system crashes from gaming. (one and/or the other fixed my crashing, (B) fixed someone else's problems.)

I wouldn't radically change your gpu settings, reinstalling drivers is always good but I would consider the likely culprit to be your tf2 install. I would uninstall and re download it. Does the hang always happen around the same time? ie 10 minutes in every time, or can it be in the first minute if you are unlucky.

If it is habitual based on time, or more than likely, habitual with tempature, then it could be your gpu, but typically when gpu's have heat based issues you get an error, you get a strange screen and that is it, no recovery reboot. So if you are able to get back into windows, i'm thinking install.

    Agreed with above.
Before you start messing with your actual computers settings eliminate the option that it could be your game that is causing the problems. Uninstall reinstall. Report back.

SOLUTION: it may be your powerplay options if you're on battery. turn it off and thn see if it still hangs. i had that problem too.

    Please learn to read.

His entire system is crashing. so once again, I suggest to teflonsuck, underclock and manually enlarge the pagefile, then see if you're still crashing.
