So about a week ago I started noticing that I was getting random hang-ups. At first it would only happen in Firefox, and I thought it had something to do with my plugins so I ran Firefox Safe Mode and that seemed to work.
However, I then began getting hangups while listening to music on Windows Media Player and those would affect my whole system. Everything would just freeze up for about 10-15 seconds and then go back to being normal. This would occur every 30-45 seconds or so while I had music playing.
I was not sure what the causes were until 5 minutes ago, when Windows notified me of a hard disk error (Disk Error: 0 or something) that could potentially wipe my entire system. I was then prompted to backup my files and recommended that I shut down my computer and not use it again until fixing or replacing the hard disk.
Is this something that's incredibly serious? I really don't want to have to send my computer in for repairs and be without it for a few weeks.
EDIT: I have spoken with HP and they are sending me a replacement hard drive. I will update this as it goes.
I'm very surprised that my hard drive got an error, considering I have only had this laptop for about 3-4 weeks and it has not received any significant bumps or jostling.

Hi, sorry about ur issue, and yes, it is very serious. How old is your harddrive? Was your laptop opened? If yes, these also can be issue. Where did u buy it? was it from unauthorized shop? but maybe not. New HDD should fix the problem. GOOD LUCK!
Seems like HP has a lot of issues, on this site, many of them are HP. I just went to VAIO repair center, and HP was exactly near it. while other brands repair centers were not crowded, HP one had a room full of people, angry, so angry... -

I had this happen to my envy. Yours sounds a bit more serious than mine/advanced farther along.
The replacement one has worked fine.
