Could someone look on some sort of hardware identifier and figure out the part number of the Radiance display itself (not the HP part store number)?

I know the display number of the BrightView is "LP145WH1," and JUST the panel price online is ~100$ while the HP parts store is selling it for ~200-300$.

I'm looking to replace JUST the panel inside my BrightView with the Radiance panel, and I've figured out how to take the display apart:

    1) Take apart the Envy according to the service manual and isolate the screen.

    2) Peel off the bottom cosmetic black stickers (There's 3)

    3) Unscrew the (2, 4? I don't remember) screws and take off the hinge covers

    4) Use a suction cup to pop off the top plastic, it's a snap-on type job.

    5) You're done!

If you can't find the model number of the display through software, then I would greatly appreciate it if someone who intends to take their radiance screen apart to fix something could write down the part number of the LCD.

    Thanks.

Have you actually disassembled the display on yours? If so, was the top plastic panel stuck to the lcd panel by any type of adhesive? Also, once you removed the top plastic panel, was the lcd panel itself also glossy or was it matte?

Got my Envy 14 today...Speckle as expected, but not as bad as a matte screen. I am also starting to suspect that the screen is matted or something....

    Do you recall?

Krick - When are you getting your Envy back from HP?

Yes, I have taken apart my Brightview display, and it has no adhesive.

    The screen itself is matte.

Expected date of delivery for the lcd panel is Jan 21, so hopefully within a few business days thereafter.

MATTED!?! That answers the speckling issue, and why the black isn't as deep leading to the poor contrast.

Why would they install a matted screen underneath the glossy cover??? Unbelievable HP.

Dec 23. What's unbelievable is not so much their support team as it is that HP doesn't keep enough parts on hand at their service centers. This apparently happens regularly with HP, which is mind boggling. My case manager has been fantastic though.

Hmmm - on the one hand this would seem to be the worst of both worlds without any of the benefits - added reflectionsthe of a glossy display PLUS speckling and reduced clarity, contrast and brightness of a matte display. That also explains why the glossy non-Infinity display on the DV5 looks so much better to me than the BV display on my Envy - because the DV5 is a true glossy display, not a matte display covered with a glossy panel.

All that being said, since we know HP does have a 14.5 glossy BV panel (as seen on the DV5), I have to assume that there was a good reason for HP deciding to use the matte panel underneath rather than the glossy one. I know that the MBPs and iMacs go the glossy over glossy route and a lot of people complain about excess reflections on those resulting from the double glossy panels, so perhaps HP decided to go the other route to avoid that problem. Whatever the reason, given that the majority of people (of which I unfortunately am not one) seem perfectly happy with their Envy BV displays, it would seem that HP made the right call.

Apple's late 2007 24 inch imac has matte under glass, and it looks great

    eafd,
What is the difficulty level in the disassembly of the screen? My HP logo on the lid is jacked up a bit and been bugging the hell out of me.

What did you use for a suction cup? (size, etc)

    Thanks.

Also, are the screens interchangeable between the 1000 CTO nd 1100 CTo and etc?

*In other words, do they have the same part number?

Yes, they would be identical. Generally the numbers like that just mean that a small tweak in the mother board lay out, or an integrated sound car of wireless change.

It's pretty easy to take apart.

You don't even need a suction cup, any slim plastic piece that can fit between the outside of the rubber surround and metal cover would work.

The suction cup i used is rather large, around 3.5 inches in diameter.

So I cracked my Radiance display the other day! :(

I called HP parts Australia and ordered a replacement assembly which is currently en route to me now.

So I took this opportunity to pull apart my current display and get a part number

it is a Toshiba Matsua "LT145EE15000" LCD Panel.

Maybe we can figure out what the deal is and if we can source some...

Are you sure? The panel is described on various parts sites as being 1366x768 not 1600x900. Stranger still, the BV 1366x768 panel in my Envy was made by LG - not Toshiba Matsua.

    I agree it's strange, however, I have a 14t-1000. Build date 08/10.

It was definitely the radiance panel, and this is the correct PN#.

I don't really know what to think....would you like a photo of the panel as well?

Well, it makes sense for the company to be toshiba-matsush ita.

If you check their site (tmdisplay.com), there's a picture of their product catalog, and the picture shows a menu option saying "For Mobile Notebook PCs", but if you go to the actual product catalog by clicking on the picture, there's no option for "Mobile Notebook PCs"

Oh, and a picture of the back would be nice. Are there any suffixes to the screen PN?

I just sent an "inquiry" to TMDisplay asking if they ever produced a 1600x900 version of the LT145EE15000, if they're still producing the LT145EE15000, and if it's possible for me to buy one of those screens.

Hopefully I'll be lucky and they might have some left...

What is the top plastic piece in the description? is this the top backside of the screen (the smooth section of the back that isn't patterned? I'm going to take my apart and want to do it safely. My intent is to remove dust from beneath my screen.

Toshiba-matsush i ta is the manufacturer according to the label, but because TMDisplay doesn't know this display exists, one of our members (I think it was magnus) speculates that the display was manufactured by some other company under a contract.

Same here - got a speck of dust or dirt stuck on the inside of the plastic shield protecting the display and its driving me nuts. Warranty does not cover "cosmetic" issues such as this, or even dead pixels.

Did you manage to get yours taken apart and put back together again OK?

I still would advise you to be very, very careful. It's easy to get more dust under there than before you took it apart.

Don't do it. It's not worth it. Unless you have access to a clean room you're just going to get more dust in it. The second you pull away the plastic screen it creates a vacuum like effect and pulls in dust from the air.

If you do decide to do it, use compressed air to clean it

The screen plastic itself is also static-y. It'll just keep attracting more dust.

Steamy room (shower on) + compressed air doesn't even get rid of all the dust. Believe me, I tried myself.

I wouldn't say impossible but there's a good chance that you'll have some level of dust behind the plastic. I don't understand why they decided to put plastic screen in front of the lcd.

Also if you get a radiance you will need the video cable that comes with it. The BV cable won't work with the radiance.

    eafd,

Did you ever succeed in replacing the brightview with the radiance panel? I am planning on doing this operation; however, I read that in order to go from a brightview to a radiance, the wiring cable or harness would need to be changed to something else. Did you have to do this?

Dude I talked to HP and they don't have any of the cables in stock and yes you do need one. It was someone named Chantal and his/her English was horrible. It really pisses me off when AMERICAN companies outsource. Anyways I suggest you contact the HP Parts store periodically or try to find a reseller. They were not much help and I doubt they even really knew what part I was talking about.

that part number brings this site as an option

    http://www.screentekinc.com/Toshiba_Matsua-LT145EE15000.shtml

the radiance display, which he said he has, was always a 1600x900 panel. the brightview is a different display, there is no reason it needs to be the same make as the radiance panel.

    Hi,
Can someone who has managed to open up an Envy 14 screen tell me how to do it? Do you put something under the edge of the plastic screen at the front (in between the plastic screen and the rubber stop)?

I looked at the service manual but it doesn't really help but I have found a replacement Radiance panel on eBay. I cannot easily get a replacement full screen and housing.

Just to show you how badly my panel is broken see the attachment... oops.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Thanks notebooko,

Maybe I wasn't clear. I already have a Radiance panel and therefore I have all the proper connectors. The problem is I ruined my panel when I travelled long distance with my laptop in the back of a pickup. You can see the result in the image I posted in my first post.

My issue is that I don't know how to get to the panel as it is carefully tucked within this metal casing and I am reluctant to start pulling it apart before I can understand how you are supposed to get into it.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I'm not sure about this but I recall reading somewhere that you have to use a suction cup to carefully pull off the plastic protecting the screen.
