So I just got my Envy 14 today and I have a few issues. There was a light scratch on the back of the laptop on the silver part. Theres a smalll dent above the headphone slot and theres a few issues with the screeen. The left black border of the screen doesn't seem to have sit properly because its making a noise when I press it. No where else on the screeen does the same. Touching the sides also sends a visible ripple through the screen. There's also a speck of dust or something right in the middle of the screen.
Thus far I'm not really thatt happy withe the issues but the laptop is great otherwise.

did you get it new or refurbished? I also had dents on the silver border and I got it brand new..I don't really mind though
-
-
these things are dent magnets IMO
out of the box should be much better though
if I were you I would return it -
-
I would do a full return and wait for the SB update. If there is no 900p screen, buy something else.

If that was a refurb...well yeah. Some of the Radiance 14s had dust inside the screen or dust got into the screen shortly after they received the laptop (apparently it wasn't properly sealed).
the ripple when you smack the thing from behind by accident is a fact of the radiance I think. Also, the radiance is naturally too blue (it's not in true color). There's a color profile to fix that but if you're booting on the intel gpu it defaults back to the way too blue color profile.

MagusDraco, that is some seriously blue sand. Wow!

@magusdraco how exactly do I change the color profile? What setting did you use? And you're saying that you can't change it while using intel graphics? I actually noticed that mine has a red tint instead of blue..

when you boot with the intel gpu it reverts back to the default color profile (on boot).
you can change it after you boot the computer, it's just a little annoying.
I'm gonna try to find my explanation for changing the profiles in a bit (they're lost on this forum somewhere) -
Yea I would like to know that as well. I have an i7 so it shouldn't change back. Mine looks more redish than blue. Also is anyone else's home and pg up button darker than the rest of their keys?

yeah. that's normal. the lighted keyboard isn't 100% consistent throughout the entire thing (there's like 2 or 3 lights beneath there not a light underneath every key).
anyway I'm trying to get stuff together so you can permanently use the correct profile.
for now though.
X-Rite: Get exactly the color you need, every time, anywhere in the world.
that lets you swap between profiles on the fly.
and here's the profile I'm using: X-rite_9-1-2010_2.icc
put it in the same folder as the display profile program. right click on the .icc file, hit install profile.
open up displayprofile and choose the x-rite one. Compare it to the original (sRGB IEC61966-2.1 or something like that on my computer).
everything else that shows up (there's gonna be 10 or so things) aren't display profiles and will just give you an error message.
now keep in mind this may not work for your screen since it seems like you guys have a different radiance screen than the original envy run (red tint instead of a blue tint).
if that's the case well..not sure what you can do. -

How to keep that x-rite profile on boot (for the ati gpu only, intel you have to go open displayprofile.exe and change it in there. This means that when you turn the computer on while unplugged it won't work because the envy14 likes to go to the intel gpu while you're booting if you turn it on while unplugged.)
Step 1: Open control panel.
Step 2: in that search bar in the top right type in color management
step 3: click add and add the x-rite profile. Also tick the "use my settings for this device" checkbox below display 1.
step 4: click on advanced. change device profile to the xrite one.
step 5: click on "Change System Defaults" You need administrator privileges for this.
Step 6: looks familiar, doesn't it? Go to advanced and change device profile to the x-rite one.
Step 7: make sure the "Use window display calibration" checkbox is ticked. Then hit close to get out of the system defaults color management and close again to get out of color management in general.
Step 8: Reboot and make sure it uses the correct color profile (make sure the the blue or red tint goes away). If it doesn't work either my instructions are a bit off (though I'm just reading through what I've changed to my settings and it works for me) or something else is happening. You may be stuck just changing it with displayprofile every time the computer boots. -

hello!
so has anyone found a profile to correct the red / redish /reddish tint on the envy 14 radiance screens?
I tried to go do it in windows color management, but I really am not good with adjusting color and feels like it ends up being worse than before.
if any1 has a profile to correct for the red tint, plz post!!
thanks! -
I don't really think there is a way to remove that tint. It's just the nature of the panel.
